Is anyone using this oil in their VRS? I've asked Millers which oil they would recommend for a Fabia VRS and they recommend the XF Longlife oil over the XFE-PD. Does anyone know what the difference is between the longlife oil (for VW variable servicing) and normal life oil? I'm planning to keep my VRS for 5 years or more so am wondering if paying the extra for XF Longlife would be money well spent. Comments/opinions anyone?

I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but i thought long life oils were primarily designed for cars on variable service intervals :confused:

As the Fabia vRS is on a fixed service interval , the correct Millers oil is the XFE - PD, at least this is the stuff that's currently filling my sump

Swings and roundabouts.. argurably the longlife may give better protection then the normal stuff...

SEAT now put longlife as standard in their diesel engines that are 150bhp and over. they are fixed servicing just like ours

I had a similar conversation with my mechanic when he did the servicing on my VRS

The Options were

Millers XFE-PD 5w40 (1Litre = £5.81 5Litres = £23.48 RRP - NOT incl. VAT) hi-synthetic

or

Millers XFD 5w40 (1Litre = £6.60 5Litres = £24.45 RRP - NOT incl. VAT) fully synthetic

To be by the book skoda would want the XFE-PD as that has been approved by Volkswagen to their 500.00, 505.01,and 505.00 specifications. If you are worried about warranty etc i wouldn't stray from the approved oil - this is what i went with.

However the XFD 5w40 is a better oil - fully synthetic, and the price difference is very small - the cost of getting the XFE-PD through Volkswagen tests means that the oil is more expensive. Outside of warranty i will probably change to this.

The Long Life oil is very expensive in comparison Millers XF LONG LIFE 0w30 (5Litre = £36.98 1Litre = £11.09 RRP - NOT incl. VAT) although i don't know anything about it. It could well be worth the money - anyone???

My mechanic certainly didn't recommend straying very far from the 10k service interval - and preferably doing it before - so personally i can't see the point of the long life oil.

I used to use the XFD old in my previous car (Peugeot 406 2.2 HDI) and prefer to use fully synthetic oils whenever possible. However in order to stay within the Skoda warranty it sounds like it would be best to stick with XFE-PD.

Interestingly I called my local Skoda dealer to see what they use in PD engines and they said Magnatec SLX?? I've never heard of this product! I do wonder sometimes whether dealers just have a barrel of oil that they use for all cars (petrol or diesel)...

PD engines need PD oils and that's one rule you should not deviate from.

I am fairly certain that millers do a fully synth PD oil.

What about Millers XF Longlife 0w-30?

From the Millers oil page:

'Exceeds the requirements of VW 503.00, 506.00 and 506.01 so is suitable for widespread use in VW petrol and diesel engines as recommended by the manufacturer.

Also exceeds the requirements of ACEA A1B1 and A5B5'

The XFE-PD is a 5w-40 Semi synth and the XF Longlife is a 0w-30 fully synth. You would have to find out what spec your car requires and wether the oil you are thinking of using meets or surpasses this standard.
