windscreen leak in heavy rain

I bought a mark II in the summer and all seamed well, well until the weather changed

 

There is a leak in the windscreen passenger side in heavy rain. I can literally see the drops coming in at the top left corner and then dribbling down the inside windscreen before dropping onto the passenger footwell. I inspected the top corner externally and it an attempt was made to rectify it as sealant was previously applied there. I've applied some more in the gap but it hasn't made a difference.

 

Anyone else experienced this? Am I right in saying it must be coming in from the the deteriorating seal or could it be coming from elsewhere? Do I have to get the a pro to reseal the window or do I have other options?

Had similar issue on our 2013 model about six mths ago. Had to have screen removed and refitted. Suggestion from windscreen specialist to effect that "we do a VW group vehicle every day of the week, they must use a dodgy adhesive, samw with Range Rovers he said" pointing to 3 x RR behind him in his workshop".

We had similar on our Mk2 and on our Fabia.  I resealed between the glass and bodywork on a dry day after cleaning all the channel out etc, using polyurethane sealant and that sorted it without taking the screen out.  You need to do the full width at the top and down the sides, otherwise the water continues to get in through capillary action.

Thanks skomaz. I hadn't thought about applying the sealant all the way along the top and down both sides. I'll try that and keep my fingers crossed.

Just had my (original) screen changed after striking some debris. The Autoglass chap asked if the car felt damp as the seal on the top and sides of the screen had failed. Regular thing apparently and hopefully the condensation/dripping issues it’s been suffering will disappear.

The windscreen bonding can indeed fail, or be poorly installed. 

 

Just a thought, does your car have a sunroof? Blocked drains can lead to the channel around the sunroof roof getting flooded and coming out above the windscreen. Seen this on other VAG cars.

My Superb wagon has just started leaking presumably at the top of the windscreen. It was dripping onto the steering wheel and also running the driver’s pillar. Discovered during heavy rain when parked outside as is usually parked under cover and we don’t get much rainfall here in Rockhampton.
