Sat nav and other features dropped ?

Featured Replies

“We're trying to explore functions on demand and give customers the chance to order the features online,” its head of sales and marketing, Martin Jahn, told Autocar at the launch of the Kodiaq in Berlin last week.

TranslateCynic gives "we are going to rip off our customers"

If you could download air over the internet they would deliver the vehicles with flat tyres. 😒

Poor value perhaps but it only becomes a rip off if they don't tell before you've purchase the car.

Just thought it strange that after all the launch videos by motoring websites and the press releases that, as fas as I'm aware, if true then they kept this news rather quiet.

The Skoda brand is defo loosing it's 'value' mojo. Each report I see gives me less reason to replace my current car with another.

Standard PR stuff, shout about all the great things and improvements.

Keep quiet about all the negatives and hope poor quality journalists who don't do any research, but just copy the press pack only mention the improvements.

Unfortunately for Skoda going forward, some of us are financially savvy and refuse anything that is subscription, or bundled.  But they are welcome to fleece the dumb punters who can only see a monthly price, and not value of anything over period of ownership.

Does permanently connected to the internet mean you get car lifetime free internet access, or is it another free trial that stops working after a year unless you pay about another £1000 over next 10-15 years to keep it.

What’s interesting is that Skoda (or VAG) seem to think they can make the subscription model work in cars. Even BMW have admitted defeat and are apparently stopping doing subscriptions for extra functionality (heated seats being one of them!).

To be honest, couldn’t care less if the car doesn’t have SatNav - as long as CarPlay works, I’m sorted. Very rarely use the built-in SatNav now, and never use the other functionality (media player, radio, etc.).

I was asked if I wanted to trade my 2019 SE L Bear in, for the facelift model and I refused.

I asked the Skoda dealer salesman why, I would pay more for less equipment for example to which the was an " Ok " reply !

I did add, Skoda are not doing themselves any favours are they - not that my opinion will make any difference.

I have to say my MK1 Bear was brilliant. Just a basic model style at the time no sat nav nothing I felt luck to get heated front seats. However ordering this 2023 update model has been like pulling teeth getting any help or information out of the dealer. I ended up after 6 months of no information going to the Skoda customer service. Who say Your best speaking to the dealer then I explained why I'm calling them and they have been slight more helpful.

My new one is the SEL EXECUTIVE. i have no idea what that means and despite the comments above about missing sat navs etc I'm assured it's there just waiting for the boat to bring it from  EU. no idea how long that's going to take. All info worth knowing to this point given by Skoda directors office they have been most helpful. Skoda does have petty bad customer service in the UK just look at trust pilot this will be my last Skoda. I was told I could track my new car experience through my Skoda app well I can't see how so if you guys know I would appreciate a heads up please.

If your car is currently waiting for the boat then you've posted in the wrong area. You'll have bought a facelifted Mk1 Kodiaq not a Mk2  The Mk2 isn't available to order here in the UK at this time. It's possible no RHD cars have even been built yet - all the press launch cars I've seen are LHD.

Your dealer won't know about Mk2 specs, neither will customer services as to date no UK spec details are available.

I think it's £72.99 per year for up to 60gb

So yes keep car 14 years is £1000 extra

When you think have just extended cambelt to about 15 years, save on one cost and get charged for another.   Classic  take with one hand, give with the other.

It is not compulsory though is it?

Does the car still have smartlink  to connect your own phone to use your own existing data plan if you have one?

Personally if a car doesn't have integrated satnav i won't be buying it.

I have very limited resources for paying non-sense subscriptions.

same MMI infotainment is being fitted to new Kodiaq and new Superb

It's MIB4 - same as on the new Tiguan, which has just opened for orders.

I think the thing which will start to make in-built SatNav more important is cars that use that data to impact the driving.

I believe some of the Enyaqs and Hybrids can already automatically vary how much regeneration to apply, based on SatNav info. So it may slow you down more if it thinks you're coming up to a junction for instance.

Or if an Enyaq knows you're coming up to a charger so (I believe on some models at least) it pre-conditions the battery to the right temperature.

In those sorts of scenarios an out-of-date SatNav will start to make a material difference to how the car drives.
