New clutch time...

Featured Replies

About to push the button on new clutch, flywheel and slave.  Getting tired of the juddering in first.

Have been quoted €1800 for new clutch and flywheel from Skoda

or

€1700 for new clutch, flywheel and slave from an Indy. (no idea what brand of parts)

Anyone have any thoughts on those prices, I'm thinking of going with the Independent.

My thoughts are that they are making an obscene amount of money especially as your vehicle is FWD and not 4x4 so a comparitively easy job.

My own 4x4 version cost me €300 for a LUK clutch kit inc slave cylinder and DMF, fitting was done over 2 leasurely half days.

There are mobile clutch fitting guys who post videos on Youtube that change these clutches in  an hour or less on their back using a trolley jack and axle stands.

I will pay your airfare to Ireland and give you two days free accommodation if you do mine for the same! 🙂

Where in Ireland are you?  Might be worthwhile giving Daltons just outside Portlaoise a call if you're not to far away.

Thought about that, but a bit too far for me.

Update:

Just had new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and DMF fitted today.  Just under €1000 which I am very happy with.  I had a good look at the parts and all three showed signs of wear, there was not much life left in the clutch at all.  The mechanic was surprised that a petrol engined DMF would go, I suspect it may be down to the ACT as the engine is definitely not as balanced on two cylinders and that might put additional stress into the DMF.

Hi, I'm also getting this "Juddering" when the car is driven for an hour in the city, and then when accelerating from the Red light I feel this for 1-2 seconds.
Skoda Delar gave me quotes for 2400 Euros of invoice. They say it's ca lutch and Flywheel issue but they didn't diagnose the car, just by doing a test drive.

Do you have any suggestions what should I do to fix this within 1000€ please

You just need contact a few independent mechanics or gearbox specialists. It could just be the clutch but it's probably worth doing the DMF as well if you plan on holding onto the car. Anything sub €1500 is a good price.

O/T as I've a Octy 1 estate TD. North of 250k on it. Still on original clutch. VAG have really trashed their old reputation 😞

P.S.  +1 for Daltons.ie  :)
