Service Frequency - Help please.

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to car ownership.

No warning lights for now. Car is running fine and the only thing we were advised about the "feel of the car" is to change bushes. Looks like a faint knocking sound is coming from the front and a little squeaking when going over bumps.

I wanted to be cost effective too, Skoda pricing is eye watering.

What are the frequency in services please?

Citigo Greentech.

  • Coolant servicing (Level seems fine, does we drain and change this?)
  • Oil change and filter change (How to check if it due?) Kwik fit is asking £87.95, is this okay?)
  • Air filter servicing (How to check if it due?)
  • Tyres - tread check and change - (This is obvious, I have to measure the depth and just choose a service place to change)
  • pollen filter change? (How to check if it due?)
  • Light condensation in the near side front lens. Not sure how to remove it.
  • transmission oil change? (How to check if it due?)
  • Bushes, suspension and anything related to it? (Not sure where to start!)

Could someone guide me on the way to check some of these please? Appreciate your time!

Thanks,

Sid

What Citigo have you got and what age, mileage is it?

Do you have any MOT and Service history?

Coolant. check strength of coolant, it's anti freezing resistance. Change if low/poor only.

Oil and Filter change every 12 months / 10 K miles. ( Don't use Halfords )

You can check when the last service reset was done using some OBD2 devices like OBDeleven.

Don't assume that the service was done without some other proof like an invoice.

Air filter. every 60K miles but do it when the Spark plugs are changed which is at 4 years / 40K miles.

Pollen filter. every 2 years / 20 K miles, remove and see if it is clean.

Light condensation. remove cover to bulbs and blow a hairdryer in to it.

Transmission oil. Don't need to change unless you have a problem.

Bushes & suspension, look at MOT history first.

Some useful info in this post:-

Thanks. AG Falco

KwikFit are surely doing more than an Oil & Filter Service at that price.  Far too expensive anyway.

Pre Winter inspection and up-selling opportunities.

Check Air Filters every year / every service, not by years apart since nobody but the driver knows where the car is used,

You look see if Dry & Clean.  you can clean out the air box, give the air filter a vacuum or blow through if you think it does not need replacing.

Same with Pollen Filter, and you can wash around that area and vacuum there as well.

Brake Fluid is supposed to be replaced at 3 years then each 2, but in the past couple of years Skoda have some new models again back to at 2 years and each 2 years.

Fluid can be tested for H20.,

Like Anti freeze / Summer Coolant / Rust Inhibitor normally called COOLANT can have ratio / strength tested.

Rear drum brakes can be serviced as in the drums get taken off, cleaned, lubing done etc.

Knocking sound over bumps is often a worn bush, the ARB swivels worth checking first. Could be lots of other things....

Squeaking may be just a dry bush - try some silicone spray on a few rubber bits.

The noises stuff shouldn't cost a fortune to locate an fix at a decent local independent. Same with a general service for say oil & all 3 filters - just be careful to specify what you want changing (oil filter is a must with new oil, air filter & pollen filter easy to check, or just replace no matter what)
