Road bump thuds and brake noise

Featured Replies

Had my Scala for 4 months now and driven 3,000 miles.

I have noticed that when I drive over any bumps in the road the car gives a thud from the front end, these are not huge bumps in the road so I'm not sure why the dramatic thud. I can recreate the thud if I drive over the speed bumps at a local retail park at a speed over 10mph.

Also, over the last few days I've noticed a grinding squeezing sound from the brakes when coming to a stop. Not sure what is causing this.

Best check or have someone check that the Transport Blocks were removed when the car had the PDI at the dealership before hand over.

Visual inspection.

Have you set the tyre pressures since getting the car to suit your load carried.  & reset the TPMS.

Maybe a stone caught in the brakes, or are the discs getting corrosion as it sits over night and you are grinding this off?

I took my car to the local dealership yesterday and yes the transport blocks had been left in.

Now for the interesting part, the dealers have said that if the transport blocks have been left in and the car has been driven it is Skoda's policy to replace the suspension.

My car is leased so I contacted Skoda Finance and they were less then helpful in trying to help. My local dealer is now preparing a quote to send to the dealer that supplied my car.

I'm not particularly happy that the suspension is going to be replaced, I just have visions of the car having more issues once they start poking around with it.

It probably wont be replaced, you will go to all the trouble of getting the quote and then Skoda will say "we don't know who told you that but they were wrong"

You are wise regarding the more a dealer has their hands on a vehicle the more is likely to go wrong with it.

There are threads / posts here where others have had the vehicles suspension damaged with the Transport Blocks left in and then parts have required replacing.

The inspection needs doing and really it is the Dealership or their insurers that need to pay out it is not a Warranty issue. It is the Dealerships, Master Tech and Dealer Principal that are allowing incompetents to risk the lives of customers.

Thanks for the comments.

I have emailed Skoda Finance, they are the legal owner of the car and the issue occured before I took delivery so I believe it should be them sorting it rather than me. I might not get anywhere but it's worth a shot.

They will only care if you stop making the payments or there is visible damage which will affect the resale value at the end of the lease anything else is a waste of their time, their resources are directed towards closing the next deal.

Finally got a response from Skoda Finance.

They have confirmed that the suspension doesn't need replacing and they have compensated me for the issues I've had.

2020 Scala Style, I got it in January 2024. I've been meaning to get it to the dealer as it a nasty bang going over pot holes, but I've been too busy.

Found this thread and also found a pink transportation block!!

Had only one been left in? It beggars belief that this block has been in place for 4 years!

Yeah, just the one. The car feels, and sounds, so much better now. I'll still take it in, as the rubber has perished thanks to the block being left in so long.

I wonder what the previous owner was thinking?! Probably will never but a Skoda again due to the harsh ride?!

Quick update on this.

Annesley Williams Skoda Dublin took the car, replaced the damaged rubber and fixed the top mount.

I can't recommend them highly enough. Definitely will be buying from them again in the future.
