Stone chip touch up product?

Recommended Posts

Touch up kit is good for paint colour, but the brush it contains only lead to poor quality result.

This kind of tool gives a much better result:

No dough around the area to treat. I've seen this on "Car SOS", they treated stone chips on the bonnet of a Porsche 911 Mk1 bonnet, with excellent result.

I've done the same on my front bumper and bonnet, very satisfied with the result.

For anyone reading I've opted for CarPaints4u touch up kit with primer, and will be using hyrdate-80 on the corrosion spots before applying the primer and paint.  Only problem is now it's too wet to use with the amount of rainfall we're getting and when it's not raining it's too cold to use!  Joys of British motoring...

Something that is always worth noting, and from experience:

The rust you can see wont be all the rust. You can guarantee there is more rust under the paint spreading outwards.

A touch up pen may work for now or a few years. But sooner or later it will bubble up sadly.

I had a genuine Skoda touch up pen, same paint colour for both my Octavias and also my neighbours MK2 Facelift who has inherited it, expensive but still in service some 20 years later!

Anyway it was a dual pack with both base coat and clear and one of the caps had a needle type wire brush for enlarging the damaged area to remove all of the rust, it did indeed often creep well beyond the visible damage.
