You need to buy a vac. and some polish and dusters fella, and stop fannying about with Umbro paint. It looks silly.

I would have gone for a brighter shade of silver personally, but good on ya for being different

EDIT: I think the flash of the camera is also altering things a bit too. Maybe re-post with some daytime photos without the flash? :rubchin:

Umbro = Football

Humbrol = paints etc.

Colour is Metallic Pewter. white wine/Champagne colouring is caused by the green tinted glass Skoda fitted reflecting off the varnish/lacquer. It's not as pronounced to the eye as it is to the camera.

Flash doesn't help, neither did waving the camera around trying to take the piccies rather than holding it still.

Looks good:thumbup: How did you do such a tidy job on the stereo though, you must have nerves of steel!! Only thing I'm not sure on is the line that you've left on the ASR button bit, doesn't seem right imo.

Update: Carpets and mats now cleaned It was a bit tree like in there beforehand, I agree...

Stereo all comes to bits but voids warranty...

- On/Off/Volume button (why won't it let me use "kn*b"?) pulls off.

- You need to take the bottom cover off and release clips and remove a couple of torx screws from the sides before the fascia will unclip properly. Otherwise, it just kind of leans forwards a bit and wobbles around feebly.

- Then you undo the ribbon connector clip on the fascia and it falls off if you're not careful.

- Fascia: Undo 8xmini-torx self tappers and the circuit board and rubber key mats fall off.

- All the buttons can be persuaded to unlatch from the fascia and drop into a suitable cup/mug/plastic bag etc.

Leaves you with something like this...

Then:

- Use very fine wet'n'dry paper to take then shine off the surface of the fascia.

- Cut masking tape to size to mask the button recesses and more importantly, to stop the brushes in the CD slot getting clogged or solidified.

- Spray the thing...

- I used I knife to separate/scrape the paint off the light pipe around the on/off button.

- Then spray the topcoat.

- Use knife to score allong the edges of the masking tape and VERY carefully remove it.

I've found it needs stupid amounts of lacquer to give a proper shine. Though I'm probably not doing it right.

..and after all of that, some resourceful s*d posts this yesterday on Scoobynet :roll.

...Thankfully their finishes are a bit "Modded Saxo/Nova" or "Kitchen worktop". If they'd done a large flake metallic finish I'd have cried into my beer(s). Though I do like some of the carbon finishes and the brushed aluminium.

Hope it doesn't have you crying in your beer, but there is a brushed aluminium one here

A fairly steep price that, for what is basically a few bits of metal (or coloured plastic). And a pity they don't actually show the aluminium one properly

I kind of like taking things apart anyway so the dismantle wasn't too stressful. Doubt I'd do the same to an Alpine/Clarion or a Becker though... Was helped by me thinking "If I break it I'll buy an Alpine/Clarion/Becker" etc. etc.

Not too much work to sort it out but over a long elapsed time what with waiting for things to dry etc. Good job there's been some footy on the telly, really.

You need hot dry air to dry it rapidly. This helps to retain the shine. (Professional paint shops use an oven) I use a hot hairdryer. Works very well but you must keep moving it to avoid a 'hot spot'
