Featured Replies

As above. Short trip then stopped for 5 mins. Tried to start and flashing dash light suggests preheat not working.

That's not what it means, it just means there's a fault, you need to check the codes.

Yes, have plugged in diagnostic gismo and it came up with P0727

fault code. This Refers to crank sensor. Just now need to locate it, clean contacts and see if that sorts it. A new one is around £30 so not too bad if I have to replace it. Where is it?

(1.4 TDI)

Is yours an automatic or a manual?

Manual

That fault code refers to a communication error between the ECM and the TCM, since you don't have a TCM then it's probably a coding error.

Thanks.  Looks like need to clean connections first then replace sensor if its shot. It looks like its to the right and down from oil filter housing. May have to remove filter housing to get sensor out. (8mm multi point socket?)

You state "Tried to start". Is the car actually running as that fact could be a major pointer in fault finding. Also, being a 1.4TDI is it a standard model - 1, 2 or 3, or a Greenline. Are your brake lights working - quick search points to similar issue on a similar car.

Base model. Fault code P0727 so that's why I suspect crank sensor issues

But does it run, and if it does any issues such as no power and not revving above a certain point such as 3000rpm?

Cleared code re crank sensor. Removed retaining screw from sensor and trying to remove it. It will turn but stuck in and awkward to pry it out. Anyway, engine did start and tickover steady. I'll  post progress.....
