Timing chain noise? Superb mk3 1.8TSI

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm about to purchase a 2017 Superb mk3, 1.8 TSI DSG7. The car has 155.000km (96.000 miles) and I'm a total noob when it comes to petrol VAG engines. Owned only Diesel BMW's so far.
This is a cold start on the car this morning, I can't really tell if there's anything concerning about that noise or not. I'm not really familiar with timing chain faliures, noises, rattles etc.

How does this sound to you? Is that really short rattle normal 'till the engine builds up oil pressure?

Thanks in advance!
Vlad

I'm no expert but that sounds a bit like the problem I had last weekend with my 1.4 TSi which turned out to be loose bolts at the cam belt on one of the pulleys. Mine was the camshaft pulley bolts but I guess there are a few possible contenders in that same region.

I'm sure mine doesn't sound like that when it starts up... unless this sounds worse on video than real life.
