Speedo Clocks instrument cluster issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2012 Skoda Fabia Elegance and the light for the pointers for the fuel and engine temperature guages have stopped working and the one for the rev meter is flashing periodically.

Is it a easy fix or do I need a new Speed Instrument cluster.

Many thanks.

In my opinion it would be easier to do a straight swap with the cluster, however it may be a wiring issue.

I'm having an issue with my rev counter that I keep putting off but I fully intend on a swap rather than a repair

It is not that easy - wish it was as a cluster only cost me £10 on Ebay - but take yours out to look for a part number to ensure compatibility, mine being the Greenline has DPF light (yours being Greenline may be the same - no temp gauge only blue light). I have a 58 plate Mk2 and due to outside temp and fuel gauge issues, which Breezy Pete identified as an issue on the circuit board, I had to install a 2nd hand cluster. This requires having the SKU? 4 digit code which may be on a tag with the car documents, or extracting the details - I used an OBD plug in reader called Vag Key Login - which allowed me to read/extract off the existing cluster, and allow me to extract off the replacement cluster by plugging into the car (car will not start as the immobiliser is built into the cluster so keys will not be matched to it). You then need VagCom, other software may suit, write details into the replacement cluster. This is matching the cluster to the ECU and matching the keys to the cluster.

I think the below were the methods I followed - not 100% sure as I have also saved Immobilizer III methods which can be found a same location.

Greenline may differ to 1, 2 and 3 models

The instrument cluster - CTRL 17 - holds the information for your immobiliser. This needs to be decoded too.

This is something that I did not have to do, I just used the SKU code retrieved from original/existing clusters, so your method may be an alternate one. The only issue that I had was that I could not correct the mileage in the replacement cluster.

My illumination for the numbers on the speedo and tacho has stopped. Just confirming I'm not having a blond moment and there is an adjustment for that brightness or lack thereof?

From some looking around this forum and a quick google it seems like they are LED's, and at 10yrs old may have died. Is there a tutorial on removing the cluster to replace?
I'm thinking I could test with a multi-meter and replace them, or maybe there is a track issue on the back as mentioned in another post on this forum.

Any help appreciated.

"there is an adjustment for that brightness or lack thereof?" Unsure if you are confirming that you know about the scroll wheel at the side of the light switch to adjust brightness, but I would not expect all LED's to generally fail at the same time which is why I am questioning your statement.
