Touchscreen Cracked

Hi.

I accidentally cracked my touchscreen trying to get a set of ladders into my car. Does anyone have any idea how to remove the unit so I can send for repair?

You don't it's a dealer and or independent skoda garage job it's going to be expensive, so you may want to make enquiries on cost and have a seat handy and possibly a mobile phone ready for your insurance company as well.

If the car is after warranty, it's better to replace it on your own, using used parts. This way you will not need a seat and mobile phone :D

Found one in Poland for example for ~300 GBP.

As for replacement, the trim below is installed using latches only, so it should be relatively easy to remove.

Once remove there are couple of screws under the trim.

Pics from this should help to figure it out:

Thanks. Extremely helpful!

Appreciate its a bit of a distance but it might be worth you speaking to the guys at https://eastyorkshireretrofits.co.uk/ or https://www.vw-retrofit.co.uk  I know both have done installations with customer supplied parts.

I can't say for certain, but you might find you need to code the new unit once its installed.

If the MIB3 architecture is the same as the MIB2 architecture then the screen is just that, only a screen, and the "intelligence" (and coding) is in the glovebox unit.

It's all very well saying DIY it, but you need to have the tools, time and expertise to do it and then there's no guarantee it will work.

Get a professional to do it and know that it's going to work, be coded correctly if it needs to be and put it down to an expensive mistake.

The OP asked for ideas not to be given orders of what to do, they were appreciative of Felix's suggestion of an economic replacement and no doubt the other contributors also.

How do you know he doesn't have tools, time and expertise? The fact that he didn't know how to remove trim in this particular car model, doesn't mean he doesn't have expertise, so...

That is one way to do it. You don't know what you are doing and have some spare money? Go ahead.

But some people prefer DIY for many different reasons.

I made the suggestion that if like most people who own cars if something like that happens get it done via either a dealer or independent garage who deals with VW group vehicles as it will be done properly and professionally and the OP has got come back on the them.

If they have the tools and technical skills and information to do the then go order the part, but buying car parts from auction sites could be unwise as you don't know the source and if the part is legit or not and it hasn't come from a stolen vehicle.

So... Wind your darn neck in.

Pot, kettle, black 😒

The OP expressed a desire to remove and replace his unit which we should respect, you might talk candidly to a workmate or one of your children in such a manner if you believe what they are proposing is beyond their capability but should reflect before using the same tone to a stranger on a forum.

Do most people who own cars have them repaired by a VW dealer or specialist?

Even those who own VAG vehicles?

I would not make that assumption any more than I would assume that the OP is not capable of removing and replacing an LCD screen and needs to be given orders.

The display has component protection so not a DIY replacement unfortunately

Read all the suggestions here and then chose the one that works best for you. And ignore the pointless squabbling. 😂
