Rear WIper Not Working, Fuse Pins Missing

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've recently bought a 2012 Octavia vRS Hatch, everything is perfect except the rear wiper doesn't work. I've gone to hardwire a dashcam in today and wanted to piggyback off of the rear wiper fuse as I did with a previously owned Octavia but there is no fuse in the slot, I've tried to plug another fuse in to it but the pins appear to be missing so the fuse has nothing to connect to and just falls back out.

What's the best course of action here? Is it possible that the pins have been pushed in or pulled out and need to be put back in place or is there more to it? Thanks in advance.

What number fuse are you looking at?

#41, second from the right on the second row from the bottom.

What makes you think that's the one? Sure it isn't #18?

The card on the back of the fuse box cover shows #41 as the rear wiper fuse and #18 as blank, however I've just fused #18 and now the camera turns on and off with ignition but the wiper is still stuck, so I'm assuming the problem lies with the rear wiper motor? Thanks for your help.

No worries.

Rear wiper failures are pretty common.

Do you realise that the fuse card is printed backwards?

Well its not but its printed for a LHD vehicle.

I think the manual might be incorrect as well, not that I ever read it 😀

Someone on t'internet has produced a mirror image of the fuseboard layout which you can print off and put in place of the original chocolate teapot.

Yeah I know it's mirrored, my board looks like the attached one, showing #41 (which is actually #44) as the wiper fuse when it's actually #18 (which is actually #15) . Very confusing! 🥴 My manual does however seem to show the correct numbers!

Odd that the card is wrong, despite seeming to be the correct one for the car (no later part number than 1Z0 010 768E exists for a mk2 Octy as far as I can see).

My 2012 car has the same fuse location card ('768E) but it is overruled by the fuse location chart in the handbook.

They seem to change some fuse locations dependant on model and engine variants so how do your known fuse locations compare with the driver's handbook?

My handbook chart for fuses is:=

1 Diagnostic socket, Engine control unit, Electrical fuel pump
2 Control unit for ABS, ESP
3 Airbag
4 Heating, Air conditioning system, Reversing lights
5 Control unit for headlamp beam adjustment
6 Instrument cluster, control unit for automatic gearbox, control unit for
electromechanical power steering, parking aid, Haldex coupling

Locations and fuse values, yes. Stickers/cards and owners manuals are all a bit generic to capture the fine detail.

Very difficult to say how any given car's fusebox should look precisely, unless the first owner photographed it before anyone had a chance to change anything.
