K and N panel replacement filter

Featured Replies

If a K and N replacement panel filter was to be fitted to my car ( not an induction filter, just the one that goes in the Airbox.....

Would I nees to inform my insurance as a modification or not ????

After all I have not modified any composnents on the car, just replaced the cr*ppy paper one with a gauze wire mesh.

Anyone know, as I dont really want to pay more insurance.

I would

I would

Why?

I don't see the need, not something that the insurers could possibly get funny about surely?.

I wouldnt tell them its not a modification its just a replacement part

i think you will find that they will consider it a performance enhancement.

when i told them about the uprated filter in my bm they stung me for another

Could the same be said with tyres then?. If you changed to a more 'sporty' type of tyre couldn't that be argued as a performance enhancement, like I say, I think it would be extremely difficult for an insurer not to pay out just because you had fitted a K&N filter!.

Difficult, but not impossible. You do have to realise that insurance companies are not here to help you out, they are here to make a profit. And any claim that they have to pay out for is a loss. I don't trust insurance companies as far as I can throw them and therefore declare everything. That's why it pays to go to a 'speciality' insurer like Highway Insurance (through Chris Knott), as they understand what is and what isn't considered an upgrade/replacement/enhancement.

I told them about mine but Im with Chris Knott  and they are an insurance company that actually understand mods such as these and how little difference they make overall - I dont think I paid any extra! :)

different widths of tyres may well be a problem with insurance, hell i can remember reading about somebody being refused a payout simply because they had put an extra pinstripe down their car:rofl:.and that is not a joke either.

I fitted 225 tyres to my car (they were cheaper than 205s!) and informed the insurance. There was no increase in premium.

A K&N is technically a performance item as the car's power will increase (however negligibly!) with one fitted. I've always declared them, and it's never affected my premium :D

Chris

Yes, inform them. If you don't and they find out (probably following a shunt) you'll get no premium refund, no insurance payout, and charged for driving without insurance.

Technically, you will get a premium refund. However, if there is a third party claim, the insurer can hold the refund against it. You can't be charged for driving without insurance, however.

Following my recent incident (someone reversed into me in a car park) my insurance company are willing to accept photo's of the damage along with the quote - no inspection required.

Even if they did inspect are they likley to go rooting around under the bonnet opening up the box where the air filter is etc..... I think not, they will just inspect where the damage is i.e. the drivers door

Yeah

The last claim i made, the insurance bloke visited ,took a photo of the prang and then left

KandN claim that their filters make no difference to insurance premiums

Dont know if this means you shouldnt declare it though

The blokes who come around are independent, just hired by the company to vaildate the value of the work quoted for any repair - they are paid in the region of

This incident was a bit more complicated than that

I reversed:( into a blue escort

sorted it with the lad there and then due to the small dent

(told him to phone me with the bill and i would pay up)

Next day i get a phone call wanting
