vRS v Alfa 1.9 JTD

Featured Replies

Alfas are something that gets in your blood, once you've had one you always wish you'd kept it!

Certainly thats true of the older Alfas, nothing comes close to my old 'A' reg Alfasud Ti cloverleaf, what an amazing car, even with it's lowly 1.5 engine it still ****ed all over all the XR's and GTi's that my mates had at the time.

And if you wanna know what a real Alfa sounds like i'll take you out in my beaten up old Alfa 75 with it's 3.0 V6, now thats what cars should sound like!!

Alfas really are gorgeous even if they do fall apart.... when they work they are brilliant and the interiors are amazing

Just for comparason:

Or hows this for an interior -159int1jp.jpg

Looks even better with with tan leather and black carpet!

VRS Every time, My wife and I test drove the 1.9JTD147 115bhp and the fabia on the same day, she looked at the Alfa and said I like that, I'll take it, then she test drove it and couldn't get into her old Sxara desiel quick enough, we then drove straight to Skoda and bought a VRS there and then. The skoda may not look as nice but they are by far the nicer overall, Fuel economy/purchase price/depreciation/servicing costs/insurance costs etc.

I guess it just depends what your after in a car,

If you want something that just gets you from A to B with no fun or style then you buy the Skoda!

If you really want to enjoy the drive and do it with style you buy the Alfa!

Where my dad works have 2 147JTDs as pool cars. One intermittently doesn't start unless you turn on the windscreen wipers

They've had bother with the other one too - all electrical :thumbdwn:

I dont really get all this talk about alfa reliability even though all the ppl i know have never suffered any problems at all, im also a member of some Alfa romeo forums and they all seem to be pretty happy with their cars .. You dont usually see members talking about alfas reliability, i think that these issues apply only to certain models and certain years.. Here in Dubai dealers are very bad and they dont even know how to fix a thing and the weather is very harsh, very hot.. and people dont treat their cars they way ppl in the UK do and yet alfa owners who bought their cars new are very happy with them.

Btw there is a new Alfa romeo 3.0 JTDm diesel engines coming out soon with 290 BHP!! 1.9 JTDm will reach the range of 200-220 BHP

Hmm, a 3.0 JTDm with 290 BHP!!

If they put that in the 159 then that is definately my next car!!

JD Power and Lex do!

But the Seat Ibiza came 86th in that same survey and that is essentially a Skoda Fabia which IIRC came 4th, it is also essentially a VW Polo (no idea where that finished).

Prehaps it's peoples expectations of a car more than the reliability that's in question in these surveys.

... or where its built. My wife's Ibiza is definitely shoddier than the Fabia's i've seen. In addition the Leon Cupras seem to vary considerably depending on where they were built - early ones were reliable and then they moved production and it all went pear shaped.

Yup thats gonna be put in the 159..

and there might be a Limited Edition run of a 2.5 V6 RWD Alfa Romeo 159.. now thats gonna be a great car.. a 2.5 RWD Alfa..

and oh, the 159 GTA is gonna be a beat coz its gonna have around 400 BHP

heres a list of the engines coming soon with new technologies

-3.0JTDm 250hp(step 1)/270hp(step 2)/290hp(step 3)

even where it's built imo shouldnt affect it, maybe the human who puts it together might. machines are machines after all.

Thats the point though there could be substantial differences in working practises and standards in different countries or factories.

All the surveys in the world dont count for anything when you own the worlds most unreliable Skoda.

If I buy an Alfa and its only half as unreliable as the Skoda has been i'll be happy!

2.5 RWD 159 sounds great, think i'll stick with my old 3.0 75 for the drifting and track days though, less expensive when I get it wrong!

The 3.0 diesel 159 may well be my next taxi!!

The 3.0 75 is a great car for track days.. this is wut its know for lol

Of to the Nurburgring in it on thursday!!

Should be a laugh (if it gets us there).
