Engine code differences?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a engine code cff in my superb currently and have decided to buy a spare non runner engine to put on a stand and take apart and put back together over the winter months just to familiarise myself with these 2.0 common rail engines as I have not rebuilt one before. On results from Google I can’t find a simple answer as to what is the difference in Cff and Cffb. Also what other cars came with the cff code. I have located a cheap cff engine out of a A3 with bottom end knock that would be perfect for my intentions. But are they the same as what came in the superb?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this.

@Trapdoorthanks for the reply. Yes I had a look through that before. Which was a confusing read. But I couldn’t see anything on the CFF. I could see CFFB, CFFD But no CFF. Mostly my question is if I buy a CFF engine from an Audi A3 should the bare engine be the exact same as my CFF in the superb?

CFF is an incomplete code,  if you want to know the fourth letter of yours you could message me your VIN, or possibly get it by entering your reg number on opie oils website.

@Rizza, out of curiosity, could you try entering your reg number on the opie oils site to see whether it gives you just the three characters you know, or also the fourth, please.

@Breezy_Pete it did not show any codes at all when entering my reg.

Was that on a phone or computer?

I got it to show one of our cars details the other day, but I think that was on computer.

Not seeing it on phone just now.

Thank you too. Useful to know, to be able to advise others accurately. 👍

That website worked for me on the computer - mine is a CFFB but I noticed the engine number starts with CFF (without the "B") so that may be how the confusion has come about?

Thanks for the tips.

On the timing belt cover of my car and that of the a3 engine it just says CFF. Where as other cars I have seen CFFB so that’s kind of how the confusion started. But as Pete said it is incomplete on those stickers for some reason and it is in fact a Cffb.

Is the A3 engine on an ebay listing?

If so, sellers sometimes give reg number or VIN of origin vehicle in the auction details section.

Either can lead to the full code.

Yep I got the reg and it is also a cffb. So it work out nicely 😎
