SKODA Karoq - Retrofitting a rear-view (reverse) camera

Featured Replies

Greetings!

I am searching for information on how and if it is possible to install/retrofit a rear-vew (reverse) camera in a SKODA Karoq.

I would like to have the camera fitted in the boot-space door handle and shown in the original infotainment car screen.

The SKODA Karoq is Ambition 1600TDIA version 7/8/2019 and it has the Standard (GEN2 GP) infotainment system.

The version and infotainment information was retrieved via the VIN number through this site: https://compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com/

The car has not a rear view camera nor parking sensors.

The multimedia equipment has only an SD card.

Here is the information I have until now:

1. There are some online shops offering a rear view camera, not specifying if it is possible or not to install a a rear-view camera in the particular Skoda Karoq.

2. After asking some stores I got some answers that claim that it is not possible to install a rear-view camera since the car's main-unit does not have an input for a rear view cam. They have not seen the car, the only get this information from the VIN.

3. Some stores say that it is possible to install a rear-view camera but an additional component (Adaptor of some short) will be needed for this car. Again, they have not seen the car, the only get this information from the VIN.

I would like to understand if it is actually possible or not to install a rear-view camera and what exactly is needed to buy.

How can one determine if an adapter is needed for this car and what is this extra adapter?

Any help is welcome here.

Not sure if this is helpful but here goes anyway

I bought the Seat Arona I recently traded in for the Karoq from the sale overall Dealership.  Different branches had different franchises.

They retro-fitted a rear view camera to the Arona and it was fully integrated with the Infotainment system.

Considering the overlap both makes have with the VW Group I'd have thought Skoda could do it if Seat could manage it.

And fwiw, I got quotes from a few local ICE (Entertainment, not Combustion) specialists and the Dealer came out the cheapest.  Never missed a beat in the 3 years or so I had it.

This is also possibly not helpful as my Karoq version is different from yours (2021 with MIB3 infotainment and parking sensors).

I had a rear camera retrofitted using VW Retrofit - they checked my VIN first to make sure they could do it.

I'd be more inclined to believe a store that asks for the VIN first before selling you a camera.

The different answers might be the difference between original equipment and a third party camera (I got a Skoda genuine camera).

If you find someone that says it's possible it might be safer to get it fitted rather than buying the parts and fitting it yourself - you're less likely to end up with parts that don't work in your car.

It was fitted by Citygate and as I said never missed a beat.

Make of that what you will

Thanks for the answers.

The most weird part is that from those that do ask for the VIN some claim that it is totally doable, while some claim that it is completely impossible with my version of the infotainment system (SWING).

A new development is the following:

I visited a local store and they removed the SD Card reader, took a photo of the top where there are some stickers and then put it back again.

They said they will call me back when they know compatibility and price but I have not received heard back from them since more than a week.

Another update, the shop said they could retrofit a rearview camera to the Karoq.

They tried, but it did not work. Apparently they could not "activate" the proper functionality to show the camera to the screen.

That`s strange. I also have the same spec. I contacted the dealer about the rearview camera and they said It is possible to do it.

It was finally possible to do it at the official dealership.

The cost was 684 euros in Greece.

I think that was too high.

Thanks anyone for their answers.

This looks great, and actually cheaper based on the reported price.
Mine had only a low resolution camera and lines that do not move, no sensors, no additional markings.

Hi All,

I fitted an integrated reversing camera kit to my wife's peugeot, high quality gear, the interface box hijacks the head unit canbus with loopthrough connections no wire hacking etc.

It even has steering marker lines which move as you steer showing where you end up. Good low light performance and top notch video

The range is called Empirical in car from incar installs in Glasgow. Good guidance on a pen drive, and first rate phone and online advice and trouble shooting, if you need it

The Karoq version is currently£270 I think.

Regards

Bob
