Service and MOT advice - Karoq SE L 1.5 TSI 150 PS DSG

Featured Replies

I bought my Karoq approved used last year March from the dealership. Current mileage - approx 53k

The MOT has just expired, I didn't realise it would need it now. I'm not sure what service it needs next and if I should do the service now with MOT or wait until I get the service indicator flash.

Also, would you recommend servicing and MOT with Skoda or local garage?

The service history so far is:

Service History

14/03/2023 Used Car MPC 46,230
14/03/2023 Oil Change Service 46,230
14/03/2023 Interval Inspection 46,230

21/07/2022 Oil Change Service 41,366

20/07/2021 Oil Change Service 34,764

22/12/2020 MOT (passed) 32,166
04/07/2020 Oil Change Service 29,010
20/06/2019 Oil Change Service 19,439
01/11/2018 Oil Change Service 9,827

The MOT is completely independant from the servicing, so I'd keep it that way.

An MOT is just an inspection which has to be completed to a certain standard, so any MOT garage can do it. Me? I wouldn't pay Skoda prices ( maximum MOT fee ) rather i shopped around. I went thru Groupon for a deal with ATS - cost me something like £25 for the MOT. ( I also had them change the brake fluid ).

I've almost always had a service plan in place with my Skodas so they've always been main dealer serviced, bar one, and that's because the garage wouldn't service the car as I wanted it.  So rather than argue with them, I simply went to a VW Specialist.  Their std service wasn't any better and wasn't any cheaper than main dealers, but they did they work as I wanted it without question.

Would I have it serviced at a fast-fit centre or none Vw specialst? Nope, but that's just me. The way I see it is if I was chosong between two used cars and they were identical in every way apart from one had a full main dealer service history and the other was a local garage, I'd prefer to buy the full dealer history car.

Is the Service Indicator set for Fixed Servicing so @ 12 months in March, or for 9,400 mile intervals or set on variable. 24 months , 18,000 -20,000 miles?

Up to you when you have it serviced,

maybe best get it done

(Normally i would be doing that pre MOT and get a 13 month MOT done. )

You might want the spark plugs replaced if there is no record of them having been done.

Have you had a look to see if the Air Filter is nice and clean?
