oil change 05 plate Octavia 4x4 estate

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm about to do an oil change on my Octavia, it's got over 230000 miles on the clock and I'm wondering if an engine flush will be ok as I have a small oil leak as well to deal with at the same time. TIA.

I'm sorry you've waited this long for a reply. I think the mk2 forum is slowly dying.

Flush are good if they have been used pretty much continuously over the years. internal sludge build up could be masking the seriousness of the oil leak, so adding a flush could make the leak worse.

However, flushes are good for cleaning sludge and deposits, freeing up the piston rings etc

drop the sump pan and inspect how bad the build up is.  unless youve kept up with oil changes you can make things worse with a flush.

How long would the sump drop take as all I need is to change oil and filter for now until I can get something newer and ulez

dont stress unless you have reason to.  the sump is easy, but if youre not getting issues, just do normal maintenance.

Thanks Okey, I was advised to just keep the maintenance up as the previous owner had no record of any and was driving it once a week.

inspect the oil when you change it for sludge.  if it is present, change the oil and filter every 1K miles for a couple of times.  If its clean, dont stress and continue every 5K changes

Cool, I'll check it asap. Thanks.
