FANTASTIC NEWS - Cambelt Replacement for Skoda Karoq SE Technology TSi - S-A DSG Auto

Featured Replies

My Karoq is a 18 plate car so I figured it was time to replace the cambelt in line with previous guidelines of 5 years.

I booked the car into my local garage but had a call saying that they could not complete the work as a special 'tool' costing £2,000 was required to electronically tension the belt.

I researched on-line and saw horror stories of £800 - £1,200 for replacements ...  but what do you do?   it's a no win situation.

Luckily I found out that a garage not too far away was authorised to carry out Skoda maintenance work  ..... Got them thro' Skoda.UK website.

Called them this morning to get a quote and was given some extraordinary news.

On my Karoq ( and I stress on my engine number starting DADA) , SKODA HAVE REVISED REPLACEMENT GUIDELINES  TO  ... UP TO 15 YEARS .... YES NOT TYPO, 15 YEARS OR 180,000 MILES.

Understandably, the garage stressed it was a guideline and that personally would look to replace a while before as any new cambelt fitted by them carried a 3 year g/tee so a replacement at say 10 years would cover you until

13 years and hopefully way beyond.

I hope that Iv'e made your day!      I certainly feel good about choosing my Skoda.

Genuinely thanks for sharing

BUT

others on here have been perusing this as this was the case abroad but not in UK until last summer, IIRC (which I don't always) 23 July 2023 VW finally admitted it and those other members have like you kindly been spreading the word.

Too late for myself and others that had previously been conned by VW (£1k on my mates VW van last year and £460 for our Fabia in 2021).😠

It's been a topic of much discussion on here over the years (at least since 2016 to my knowledge) how different the advice from Skoda UK was to the rest of the VAG world.

It's great that Skoda UK have fallen into line with the rest of the VAG world, but it took them far too long and it has cost UK Skoda owners a LOT of money in unnecessary cambelt changes  - if this was the USA someone would be starting a Class Action case against Skoda UK!
