Waze on Android Auto has stopped showing Notifications

Featured Replies

Firstly, apologies if this post should be in a different forum.

I keep my Karoq , and my phone right up to date and in the last week or so, instead of a blank space on the screen where the number of outstandingg notifications is displayed, I have a minus sign on a circle, and NO notifications.

The picture shows it just under the time.

I have not changed any settings on the Phone either for Waze or Android Auto, nor on the car.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Any ideas about how to fix it as I rely on the notifications on a long journey.

I noticed this the other day too - just a dot as a notification now🤷‍♂️

Guessing it was an Android Auto update?

I agree that it's probably an Android Auto update.

But, what I had before as notification was  a white dot about the size of the new symbol under the time with a number in black representing how many oustanding notifications there are.

I can handle a change in display but not the fact that I am not receiving Notifications at all.

Current App Versions are:

Android Auto is Version 11.1.640244-release.

Waze is Version 4.101.0.1

I've checked my Pixel 6 on the latest Android version and the Notification settings have not changed - I have them set to send all Notifications.

Look to be the same versions here:

Correction - a different (? earlier) Android Auto version for me

I'm hopeful that today's update to Android Auto to 11.1.640254-release may help but I'm not holding my breath!

It's not quite straightforward to test as I rely on someoone else to send a text or WhatsApp so it'll take a little time.

Interesting  - just checked again and my currently installed version is apparently up-to-date 🤔

I hope your recent update brings back the notification functionality🤞

Create a group with you and (temporarily) somebody else in it.  Call it "Me" or something similar.  Then delete the other person.  You can then send messages to the Group but only you will receive it/them

I do it to keep a record of stuff I want to deal with later

Thanks @Viffer800. I see how that works but my need is somone to sent me a text or WhatsApp when I'm using the car and cinnected up.

Yesterday I went on a 200 mile round trip and when someone called my mobile number, it did not ring in the car, or the phone. Similarly a text I was sent wasn't notified.

The text was available if I went in to the 'Messages' app on the car screen, and voice reply worked but the message would not 'clear' as it used to.

That odd new symbol was showing wit the new software version and hence not notification 'blobs' were displayed on the car screen.

Yes, good idea. @Viffer.

Surely someone else must have experienced the same problem as I have??

Try disabling AA notifications, turning your phone on and off and then re-enabling them.

Very occasionally my phone does some weird merde and a re-boot fixes it.   Nothing ventured yadda yadda

@Viffer800 Tried that just AA, and then AA plus Waze, and that didn't make a difference.

Even asked on AA / Google support and not a sausage!😠

Temporarily switch to Google Maps rather than Waze as the AA navigation app

I admit I'm shooting in the dark here but no harm in trying

Thanks @Viffer800 I'll give it a try. May take a bit more time to do.

No problem

I understand how frustrating glitches can be so happy to suggest things even if I'm sticking a finger in the air

Ah well, another updated Android Auto version today - 11.1.640264-release.

I wonder if that will help?

Note to self - do not hold your breath!

Another Android Auto update again today to V11.2.640434-release. So now V11.2.

After 2 Android Auto updates the problem is still there but.....

I hadn't realised that the symbol is the Android "Do Not Disturb" one!!

And this describes the problems I have experienced – no notifications received despite Waze, Android Auto, Messages, WhatsApp having all notifications enabled.

I feel this could point to a 'corruption' to my phone's settings which sometimes happen when Android itself is updated.

I loaded the Android 14,  Jan24 update on 13th January and soon after that I noticed the problem. (I don't use my car/Waze/Android Auto every day.)

I have since installed the February Android update and have not noticed any changes as a result.

Does this sound a reasonable conclusion?

How can I now ‘trick’ Android Auto into switching off ‘Do Not Disturb’?

I think you can tell Android to ignore certain apps for DND

Can't remember off the top of my head but I'll have a delve on my phone

I have checked the Android Auto Do Not Disturb settings and that is not allowed and says "Must stay turned on....".

Turning all AA Notifications off, it still says the same, and the same after a reboot.

What do you see in Settings, Apps, Android Auto, Permissions, Notifications?

Any with the sliders off?

  • Author

I have all Notification sliders in the On in AA, Messages, Waze, WhatsApp

Running out of ideas I'm afraid

But here's a thought

I might be visiting friends in Llanbister in my Karoq during March. You could maybe pop up from Llan'dod to compare settings.

PM if interested

The car has just done an update, and now Android Auto seems to be working wirelessly 😁
