Should have offset the badge like this though IMO as a nod to the GTX

  • Whilst I like the yellow the 5 comes in that matt grey in combination with those wheels and what looks like a body kit is hideous

  • Looks great IMO.  I would happily have one. (A big issue for me is the Shiny plastic exterior bits for a car that will get dirty, salted and gritted roads so scratching unless the very very great

I love it.

Especially the baguette holder.

Only negative I have heard is that Renault are dropping the on board charger down from my 22 kWs I have in the Zoe to a 11 kW, everything else I have heard so far is great.

I presume the 40 kWh Urban/city version is going to be an LFP battery which is a plus and I think it will still be OK for longish journeys, hopefully all models have seat adjust up and down which is the Zoe's achilles heal in not having it, not great for car journeys over 2 hours I find.

Faster DC charging than Zoe, 150 hp motor option. My Zoe shows over 150 hp in the digital TFT screen so hopefully most powerful R5 will show over 165 hp.  Be nice if they can be chipped but then on fairly warn tyres my Zoe would oft spin up, better now I have the A grip Toyos on there.

Greater range and a host of new features.  Just needs some good finance deals, which Renault did for the Clio etech, and I think Renault will be adding even more to their profitability.  Same we are not going to see it for a year or so.  Dacia Spring will tempt many, as in Europe (13k Euros in Germany !!) and it will be big along many other Dacia and Renault vehicles. Dacia and Renault, the new Skoda/VAG.  Do still like the Cupra stuff mind you.

40 kWh and 52 kWh.

Up to 150 hp.

Start at £22,000 (carwow), £25k top gear video

Built-in google maps and auto nav via charge points.

It will have V2L and V2G via onboard charger: https://www.press.renault.co.uk/en-gb/releases/3057

Surprisingly, brake pedal is drive-by-wire.

I'm loving it. The smaller size but still 5 seater and the V2H capability. Perfect in 3-5 years to replace my wife's Leaf. Need to see how it looks in cute colours such as red, otherwise can't get my wife onboard.

The press release for V2G above talks about 7 kW or 22 kW depending on supply (I'm guessing phases). So it may have 22 kW in some countries?

Disappointed if 22 kW not a UK option. Planning to pop from Worcester to Cardiff, which is about 90 miles, the to Caldicot to see an offspring and they have 22 kW Dragon AC charger for not too expensive with the Octoverse RFID card, just wanted to try them and chuck in 4 Kwh which should only take about 12 minutes just as a test.

I have come across 16 kW AC chargers too which I have used, free when using the restaurant.

Cannot recall any 43 kW AC but my Zoe can only use up to 22 kW and only afew Zoes are the QC43 kW AC versions.

I like AC as the cost is always much lower in my experience.

Did not hear a power figure ?

Is it 220 hp like the Megane e ?

I am still thinking of the 170 hp Scenic, torque is not much less than the 220 hp Megane or Scenic motor but has a bit better efficiency with the lower power.

Looks great IMO.  I would happily have one.

(A big issue for me is the Shiny plastic exterior bits for a car that will get dirty, salted and gritted roads so scratching unless the very very greatest of car is taken flushing off before and sponge or brush goes near it, or Snow Foam and clean off grit...)

Obviously Autocar and others will go on about and they have already about range and not meeting official figures.

Well they know they are based pretty much on 5 miles a kWh.

Autocar / What Car and others are in the position to be putting the ridiculous WLTP regime results to the Prime Minister, the Minister for Transport, the Minister for Energy and to the SMMT and the Manufacturers and call for them to be looking at a way of testing BEV,s that are going to be Registered on UK roads and using Electricity from the National Grid.

They will go on about the lack of rear space or boot space.

Well as 2 seater or 3 seater they carry luggage, and they are a small car, 2 small people / AKA children might be fine,

or an adult driver and 3 people if the driver does not need the seat fully back.  'Small Cars'.   Small families, couples, individuals etc.

** Rapid charging is or was 50 kW, as has been the norm in the UK for years.

The Small battery charges @ 80kW and the bigger one at 100 kW,  so really Rapid +, or sub Ultra Rapid or what ever term that should be used.**

But not really Ultra-Rapid, or Ultra-Fast.

They is usually now 100 kW-350kW.     No wonder people get confused over charging.

They can talk some total nonsense.

If there is a not coming to the UK AC only charger, surely is will charge at 22 kW AC so you can charge at Public AC chargers.

(There are 43 kW AC chargers in some places but not really relevant except for the few with compatible vehicles.

They are not going to do Renault 5 EV,s for other countries with a max 7 or 11 kW AC charging.

If you are stopped in D with or without the foot on the brake pedal you can use the P switch, just as with a MINI,

because they do not have 'Autohold'.

You do not have to turn the car off..

Just posted here instead of a new thread on the Renault 4 EV.

Looks just like what many will need to get from A-B with passengers or stuff or both. Also back, maybe with a charge needed depending on how far you are going and how much charge there is already in the battery.

Maybe not if there is a Nuclear War or the car parks over and underground have been targeted with drones, bombs or Bunker Bombs.

If the R4 is cheaper or even same price as the R5 I would be going for the R4. Lots more space.

Some complaints about true range over WLTP, usual stuff.

We need for helpful onboard software. I am running Google 12 in the Scenic and it is constantly saying I do not have enough charge to make but I do with miles and percentages do spare.

Still not seen the tortoise/turtle, is it real ?

It is a nonsense if the WLTP figures given keep being something like 4.7 - 4.8 even 5 miles a kWh.

?

@lol-lolWhat is the sort of figure you are getting with the Scenic?

I have been getting 4.2 miles per kwh whereas 3.8 is the oft quoted figure people get for the 60 kwh, 3.7 for the 87 kwh battery which gives a good range.

Cooler weather taking its toll on tge predicted range but whether summer or winter if one just cruises round the double nickel ie 55/60 then the range eventually looks better. Always a difficult start from low altitude Worcester up to higher altitude Birmingham but when cruising on the more level ground, and then down to lower levels like Liverpool the range generally rises back to or above WLTP.

All Scenics have heat pumps. Mileage better on Techno versions with 19 inch wheel rather than tge wider 20s.

250 miles range needs 5 miles a kWh average and 100% - 0%.

Perfect weather and not averaging 4 miles a kWh is not even 200 miles range.

So lets consider the 50 x 3.7 miles maybe in UK in not the coldest weather, people in the car wanting to be comfortable and not steamed up and really 185 miles.

I am thinking the Renault 4 will be the more useful car though I gather it might be more expensive R5 which is reverse logic.

I think the 40 kwh LFP versions should sell well but dealers will push to the 50 kwh lithium I suspect.  Be interesting to see prices and whether R4 is a good repayment for my Zoe.

The indicators look a bit lacking in design and execution for letting other road users or pedestrians know your intentions.

***The new Abarth 600-e more likely to be the competition rather than 3 door Abarth 500-e.***

I do look forward to getting to drive one of these and maybe even having one as my daily drive.

Again i just have a problem with the shiny black plastic trim.

Then what is important is how the controls are to use in a right hand drive car as a right handed person.

So many oversea road test videos of right handed people in left hand drive cars have them failing to mention how the cars in the UK or Ireland will be different to use.

There are many videos of right hand drive cars showing the reviewer with the car stopped and them using their fingers on the right hand to show how easy the controls are to used rather than them driving, watching the road and selecting stuff on a screen in the centre of the car.

White.  Since we never got to see ^^^^

(eg The Electrifying reviewers, Video / vloggers.)   Not just the ladies on that team, the male and many other Vlogger outfits not saying how awkward the car might be to select stuff in right hand drive cars.

More than 500 bhp to the rear wheels :o

Very much looking forward to getting in a right hand drive car and then seeing / using the controls, centre screen and buttons / touch pads with left hand finger tips. That is very much of a difference from as seen with right hand journalists in left hand drive cars. Or those that demonstrate while stopped in a right hand drive car and use their right hand / fingers while stretching across.

If i go with Renault for my next car it will be the simpler and less faffing about model.

Less shiny black plastic trim to be messed up on winter roads and sensible wheels a tyre sizes and enough power on a 60 mph NSL road IMO.

I have a tough choice when handing the Zoe back.

R5 like so many go for or maybe the retro R4. Same chassis but more practical boot.

Question for Renault people, why is 4 bigger than 5?

I think Renault just needed a more roomy small car than the 5 ie one you can get a pram in for example.

Drawing on nostalgia appears to be a big plus. So some of the styling drawing from the old Renault 4 but really just the slightly bigger, taller, bigger boot built on the 5 platform.

5 seems good value so may end up with the 5 rather than the 4. Just wish Renault kept the 5 styling but had more room in the back and bigger boot. A 5 lwb version so more space like the Scenic has over the Megane etech.

It looks very practical, and an easy in easy out car.
