Octavia 1.5 eTSI coasting

My Octavia 2024 1.5eTSI DSG starts coasting after 500m of driving, outside temperature -5 °C. I see this very risky for wear of the motor after warranty - water temperature is not even 40 °C, oil temperature even less.

 

Does anyone know how "coasting" works? I know that alternator is responsible for motor on/off, but do not know if oil pump is also working or motor is completely turned off?

 

Can anyone help me with info, where to find this informations?

Just to be clear. Coasting is a state of the DSG transmission and not the motor.  You are talking about the motor shutting down, right?

The car was engineered to do what it is doing.

No idea about the Mild Hybrids but is the engine still running and just the DSG disengaging and in coasting mode.

 

I expect that the battery is getting generation even when the car is coasting yet no braking being done.

 

There are almost certainly Youtube vids showing what is going on, maybe even from VW.

He is talking about the engine shutting down completely since this is how the eTSI engine cars were engineered to work.

 

I was waiting to here if it is Stop / Start engine closing down and in Hybrid / EV mode and coasting. 

 

I read that they did not know if the oil pump or the motor is completely off.   

 

I am as Interested to know from someone that knows as the OP seems to be.  

 

As it is non hybrids TSI & TDI,s can have engines stop when not up to normal operating temperatures and also go into coasting mode and have been doing for a decade or more.

Engine is designed "to work" especially during warranty. What will come after 6+ years is another question 

Extend the warranty then.

 

I would worry more with a 1.5 TSI ACT with a DQ200 dsg.    Yours is a DQ200-e i believe,

 

People with DQ381 DSG might want to be sure they have a warranty covering them beyond the manufacturers warranty.

 

This is a VW Group issue, but with other manufacturers as well, they had to get lower emissions for the WLTP and RDE2.    Tough on owners if the R&D comes down to paying customers finding out how things are after 5 years of use.

 

It takes 5 years until something is 5 years old because they never did 5 years of testing.

I think this is very bad for engine. Everytime motor starts up, wear of engine parts, clutch also - constantly switching N to gear.. I think as a driver you should have a choice to have this activated or not. Same as for start/stop. Default on, but you can turn it off if you want.

The driver / owner has a choice, do not get one of these vehicles engineered to have low emissions under a WLTP test regime.

Drive before you buy, or lease. 

 

It is not going into N, but it is disconnecting from drive. 

 

The engine is lubricated by oil for start ups.  

It is not like engine shut down, Stop / Start, ACT / COD etc has not been about for over a decade.
