A question or two...

Featured Replies

Lo ... I have a 2001 1.4mpi ... I need to change the radio for one that plays shiny discs ... I have the plasticy bit to fill the gap ... and the wirey thing to wire the wires up ... but I hear tales of an aerial amplifier ... as I don't want the smoke to fall out of my new radiogram I thought it best to ask people who know such things ... thats you that is ... so ... what sort of adapter do I need to make the people of radio 1 come out ... but the smoke stay in?...

And ... the stereo I am going to get will have DAB ... how hard will it be to find a way out from the back of the stereo to the windscreen for the aerial?...

Next ... the idle seems a little irratic (serviced a thousand miles ago ... but before I bought it) ... it kinda sounds like its missing on one cylinder but it does it with such good rhythm that I am sure thats not the case ... do they all do that?...

Fanks velly much...

And one last one ... on the original stereo ... if I have my Griffin itrip plugged in ... it stays in stereo for about 10 seconds then goes to mono ... I am sure this is some "feature" of the radio so that low powered radio stations still sound ok ... but I can't find a way to turn it off ... I only ask as I don't think I will have my new radio in by the time I go on holiday in it in 2 weeks ... damned strange if you ask me...

Cheery bye!...

Some radios used to have a LOC or local setting as a manual attenuation setting. Not sure if these do though.

The most straightforward swap is to take out the original Symphony head unit and replace it with a later one with a CD slot. They are often for sale on eBay. No DAB though.

If you remove the glovebox (5 screws if I recall) you should get access to the back of the head unit and the underside of the dash for routing cables etc.

The Symphony has a built-in aerial amplifier, and many aftermarket head units don't, so you will need either an external amplifier or a replacement external aerial for DAB with a built-in amplifier. (saves sticking things to the windscreen and unsticking them when the screen gets replaced).

Bugger ... I don't really want to install another outside aerial ... I'm lazy ... and I also don't normally listen to "normal" radio any more ... I'll find a way ... thanks for the info though...

The Blaupunkt combi aerial is a replacement for the existing aerial, not an extra one. However you would have to route the extra DAB wire to the head unit if you went this route.
