Yeah, doesn’t seem too unreasonable for slow, stop start town driving.

Depends how far you are going from the cold start until you then get where you are going.

& in the stop / start traffic is stop / start operating.

Does the engine oil even get to an indicated 90*oC before you end the journey?

I think an Octavia weighs almost a ton and a half. Will take a fair amount of fuel to move it from stationary which happens a lot more in town traffic.

You can reduce fuel usage with better anticipation at junctions   etc.

Driving takes about 10 min each way from e.g. Home work shop school all in a close distance.

If you did not stop and went right back than it might be nearer 40 mpg you get than 30 mpg since the engine is at a  more efficient temp.

 I think 29mpg sounds fine

223miles at an average 14mph doing schools runs

Sounds about right for an average speed of 14mph.

But with such a low average speed it might be quicker to cycle!

2015 VRS petrol estate, DSG. Lots of 4-5 mile journeys with 40mph dual carriageway and 30mph town driving, I got 260 miles out of my last tank.

Your conversion to imperial mpg is wrong as 12.3l/100 is 23mpg.

However 12.3l/100 is about right for short distances from cold in peak period traffic for only 14 mph average speed for a vRS petrol.

Depends on how you drive. Accelerate gently, avoid braking by anticipating the traffic and staying in a high gear should give you reasonable consumption. Alternately stepping on the accelerator and brake like a bus driver and racing up to the next block of stationary traffic will give terrible consumption.
