possible new car: but DSG hums

Featured Replies

did a test drive today of a 4x4 TDI 190 L&K estate, 2020.

only issue i see is that the DSG seems to "hum". it's a quiet one but noticeable. If I put the transmission in N, it goes away, and stays away until I put it into D and then start to move - then it starts again.

It's like a kid trying to be annoying, a "mmmmmm" in a middle range. Does not change perceptibly with engine revs. Seems not to get louder with speed, either.

Any thoughts appreciated... the car would be covered with a warranty, but it would be nice to understand what I might be getting myself into here.

DSG oil hasn't been changed to my knowledge. Car is 4 yrs old, 82k km.

Walk away. It could be an easy fix with a dsg service* or it could be a major issue. I'd rather not hang around to find out.

*Should be done for you should you choose to purchase.

See if you can test drive another car, might just be a characteristic that you’ve picked up on but is totally normal to others

Not a characteristic.   That is Main Dealership speak.  Excuses.

You should not need to put the transmission in N, you could drive in D and enable 'Coasting Mode' and then the car will be freewheeling to hear it.

What DSG, is it a DQ381?  7 speed wet clutch.    The Servicing / oil & filter change is not due until 128,000 km.    But sadly there are more and more having

issues.

?

Is there a record of the essential HALDEX Service having been done at 48,000 km?
