Getting some bass

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a company car octavia iv and the stereo system is a bit weak on base. Rest sounds OK.

Want to improve the sound quality a bit by maybe fitting a sub under front seats, but I can't physically modify the car as its not mine.

Is there a way of some sort of plug and play from existing stereo for power and speaker outputs I can run from glove box under seats with minimal changes?

Basically as its lease company car I can't mess around with electrics by fitting a live power through bulkhead etc causing damage to car. But if I can buy an adaptor to plug into stereo behind glove box that can provide power and speaker signal and poke it somewhere to under the seat for a sub it would be good

Thanks

Hey, I'm interested as will be in the same position soon.

How did you get on?

Not got much further to be honest.

Think best option is to get a match 4.3 and adaptor cable.

From my understanding I can then run a sub via the match amp without having to wire a separate 12v?

Unfortunately the match systems are not cheap. So looking at £500 for the match DSP + 100-200 for under seat sub. Not sure if it can power 2 of them without extra 12v power

Still deciding if it's worth the cost. Currently using Poweramp via my android phone. Which allows a better EQ

Thanks for the update.

I'm a tad out of touch, not looked at ice since I used to run a shop installing it (25 yrs ago!) so not in the best position to advise.

This said, back then if / where the customer on a tight budget more often than not it was a case of installing a Kenwood KSC-W801 applified bass tube, putting it in the same cabin space as the driver (for example in the footwell behind their seat when it would fit). Then cut the bass on the head unit and off they would go. Then it was head unit after this, then, if they did want to throw some proper money at it later, door & boot builds 😬

'them were the days' 😀

Do you have the standard sound system or the Canton system?

Standard system. Canton wasn't available to order when I placed my order for car

The Helix sub might be an option.

It was available for the previous generation Golf and Octavia as a genuine accessory. It's also listed as being capable with MIB3 units but it doesn't list the current Golf or Octavia - so it could work, the connections are theoretically the same. It's the dataset that is unknown.

Funnily enough, they show an image of it installed in the back of a Golf 8. But information on it is sparse.

They also have this version if you don't have space in the spare wheel well.
