Hi All

New to the page, as I am looking to buy a 2013 4x4 DSG L&K Superb.  98k FSH, looks tidy.

I am hopefully going to have a look later on and was wondering if there is anything particular I ought to look out for?

I understand that the DSG has been regularly serviced, not sure about the Haldex but other than the obvious checks that all the bells and whistles work, not smoking or shuddering from the DSG, I'm not sure what else to look for.  I've had a look but these cars seem fairly solid (hence the reason for buying one!)

I've also bought an OBD reader to check for error codes but I'm not that experienced with readers, so unsure whether it'd be a help or hinderance (ie: too much information).  I gather MK2 Superb's can have issues with ABS sensors and EGR valves, which I'm guessing should show up here but not sure what else I should be looking for as red flags.

Any thoughts or insight from anyone would be appreciated.

hi would be handy if you included what particular code reader you have..i have the autophix 7610 which im happy with as its specific to the vw group

I have a Veepeak VP11, which I understand is not VAG specific but should provide all the information I need, via bluetooth to a linked app on my phone.

 

Hi don't know much about that one but mine is abled to check soot levels etc and when i fitted a new battery the other month was abled to code it myself..some one who is more familiar with that model will be abled to help you more..they a great cars love mine..good luck with looking

I'm sure you're going to check for rust but I'd look carefully at the very front of the sills where the front wing meets the door. Seems quite common for muck to get trapped behind the arch liner and eventually cause some corrosion.

 

I also don't think there's any warning lights for the haldex - mine didn't seem to have one anyway so definitely good to look for codes. It should again have been serviced - I think every 40k off the top of my head.

 

 I'd also check if it's been used for towing and if so, the state of the rear shocks and springs. Also check it breaks in a straight line if you get to test drive it.

 

If it's L&K it may well have the powered boot. These seem very prone to failure (just have a search) and the parts alone are expensive out of warranty if you want to get it working again.

A very quick Google look , I could be wrong but I'm guessing that's not going to tell you more than general OBD generic stuff especially if it's not to the complexities of VW and L&K I'm guessing is loaded with more complex VW extras.  Perhaps better than a slap in the face with a wet fish and might alert you to something (as long as it's accurate) but you might already see, feel, hear or smell most given of it on a long and varied enough test drive and use/running of the car from standing overnight cold to hot, heavy and not overcareful use of as much as you can and together on the car.  If you can't leave the salesman back at the garage see if you can at least get him in the back seat.  Good luck.

 

It's more the DPF than EGR being a problem, these motors don't enjoy just tootling around town on shopping/school runs and when they clog it's not a simple fix + the cost can be eye watering. (been there, swmbo was doing this with very few sightings of 2000rpm until it was too late to save.)

Keeping them clear however normally just involves regular 30+ miles run at 70mph/4th gear to keep the revs high enough for long enough.
