2016 Yeti 2lt.

Just driven 300 km on a motorway, majority of time @100kmh.  After 200 km the diesel particulate icon came on.  Thought it was a bit strange considering the distance at 100 km.  Cycled through the display to show the adblue range which showed 5500km, odd as I hadn’t top up for months.  Got home and pondered, I’ll check the Adblue level. I was able to add about 1.5 ltrs. I don’t know if the Adblue story is relevant or not.  Recently had a new battery, I think without issues.

 Been out for another “fast” drive but icon still on.  Any advice before I take it in.

A different car but i had a 2016 2.0TDI SCR DSG and after a few AdBlue fills it started just sipping the Adblue had a increased range on Adblue and started showing a Clogged DPF light rather easily. But really only with a few days of sort runs in town. Cold Start short runs, not regens just clogged filter.

Started off just needing an 8 mile run to turn it off and eventually got to 20 miles and 20 +.

 

Last of the VW / Skoda / SEAT / Audi Defeat Device cheaters. Early Euro 6 and they still had tricks.  Great Fuel Consumption on runs and maybe less Adblue use over time when maybe more was needed.

 

These were Full with AdBlue and someplace i have it with 8,500 miles range by the time it was near 30,000 miles.

& taking a long time / miles to drop by each 500 miles, about 800 miles or so.

Much appreciated info. and reassurance,  Now you mention it I can't remember the last regen I heard, it was just something I grew use to and ignored.

Just in case it helps anyone in the future…

 

OK, didn’t want to tempt fate before my NCT (MOT) today, but it passed without any sign of the Diesel particulate icon lighting up !!

Shortly after the problem started I took it to the local dealer who did the obligatory computer diagnostic and reset.  I haven’t had the problem since.

I have just had the same thing happen to me (Octavia Mk IV Diesel DSG, 2023, 17,000 miles). After a motorway trip of 170 miles the Diesel Particulate light came on and has stayed on for 180 more miles. I have followed the usual advice of driving at >2,000 revs for extended periods and forcing some pedal-to-the-floor fast acceleration from traffic lights, but no result. The car now seems to be devouring AdBlue more than it has ever done before. The last 180 miles sent it from 2,500 range left to 1,600 . Anyone else have the same problem?

 

(This April I had a "Warning: Excess Oil" warning appear and a garage drained 1/2 litre. Possibly related?)

 

Anyway, this coming week I have to take the car to a garage to get other warning lights checked.

I will never understand the logic of hard acceleration as a cure for DPF clearing. That action emits the most soot. Forcing the car to rev its nuts off will also add soot load

 

The system normally just needs to be at operating temp for long enough for the process to start, run through, and finish.

 

Driving on a motorway at a constant speed 50-70mile an hour should make the system clean if it doesn't the system needs checking over

@HenPen   You need your nearly new car in the hands of a competent technician.   That dealerships employees are a liability. 

Thanks for the tip about hard acceleration. I had been told by a friend (wrongly) that was the best thing to do "to clear out the cobwebs". The warning disappeared after a faily gentle drive through winding narrow Wiltshire roads this afternoon. The local Skoda dealership has been very poor in my experience, but as there is likely to be a warranty issue with sensor faults, I need to have them handle the car. I'd seen the manual's advice about clearing the filter and I would have thought that a long trip motorway trip would have cleared the warning; no, a 30mph dawdle did it.

Your friend is almost right, just not for cleaning out the DPF ... its also known as an "Italian tune-up" and can certainly blow the cobwebs away if your car is a bit sluggish or spends its life in town doing 30 mph most of its life, my opinion is its a worthwhile/fun exercise, does it work? .... a worthy several pint discussion, but its just not for clearing out the DPF, which as you have found is better with a 60 mph, 30 minute  road trip to kick off the regen.🙃

I monitor what my dpf is doing with VAGDPF on my phone. If the dpf gets too full then I can force a regen same as the dealers using Carista. It's normally fine and regens about every 450 miles.

The old Yeti (remapped 140) was lucky to make over 100 miles between regens and needed a lot more work to keep it healthy
