How to fix ghosting/fading around badges?

Recommended Posts

I recently had the amazing idea to de-badge my car... a heat gun, dental floss, and glue&tar remover worked perfectly!
The issue is that there's some sort of fading around where the letters were - probably from previous owners not cleaning around them very well (see pictures)

Would white spirit or t cut help? Or any other ideas??

Here's the before and after de-badging:

(This is my first car so don't judge me too much! and yes I tinted the taillights myself and I'm about to replace the number plate and upgrade the emblems to the newer version)

Not really; it's more that the red paint has faded everywhere except under where the badges were. This is a well known issue with red.

Well you can see that the shade of red under where the letters were is still the same shade as the rest of the car... it just a bit "hazy" around the letters

That's what it looks like to me anyway

You can argue until you're blue in the face but it's exactly what @Paws4Thot said, UV exposure has faded the rest of the paintwork slightly, try a good cutting compound and a machine polisher to reduce the effect.

I never said he was wrong all I was saying was what I thought it looked like in person :)

I've just finished machine polishing it but yeah I'll give it a go on that area cheers
