Can someone please help me with this strange problem.  When I first got the octavia estate mk3 1.5 Tsi SE L 69 plate all was fine with the satnav/infomation unit.  Now it gives out this single 'beep' tone at random intervals especially when I,m driving through built up areas.  Cannot find anything in the settings on the unit or in the manual.  Can any of you fine chaps/chapesses tell me WTF is going on?

Which sat nav unit do you have?

a single beep at random intervals sounds to me more like something being detected by something (lane detection,forward collision detection etc) than a single beep at regular intervals does

Did a previous owner install speed camera notifications?

The satnav is the Amundsen MIB2.  I have updated the satnav/infomation unit to the latest available download.

The suggestion about a speed camera detector is plausible as I removed a small control panel that was dangling from the dash when I got the car.  Perhaps there is still the gubbins of the detector somewhere inside the dashboard!

@PetrolDave was referring to speed camera position data being loaded as POIs onto the MIB unit itself.

Are you able to post an image of the dangling control panel you removed?

This is the custom fitted control panel I removed from my Octavia dashboard.  Does anyone recognise what it was for?  My guess is that it is some sort of speed camera radar/laser detector warning system and that is what is causing the random 'beeb' sound every 2-3 minutes.  The random sound does not correlate to traffic lights, junctions, other cars nearby, etc.

If someone knows what it is then maybe I will know what other wiring I am looking for to remove.  It is only 5mm thick and consists of 2 simple press buttons on the front.  Inside is a printed circuit board but no battery, so it must be wired directly to my car's elecrics.  Before I try dismantling my dashboard I really need to have an idea what it is that I'm looking for!

Any help or ideas will be most gratefully received.

If it is a speed camera detector then there must be a receiving aerial fitted but I can't see it anywhere.

Could this be what some people have fitted by car insurance companies to monior their driving and therby get lower insurance premiums?
