Unreasonable catalytic convertor temperature

Featured Replies

Hi, my fabia has had 2 codes for a while now:

17549-load calculation cross check: Implausible value P1141-35-00

16556-Fuel Trim: System too rich: Bank1 P0172-35-10

The fuel trim code is sometimes there, sometimes not.

The load calculation code is basically permanent even after a head gasket replacement. Some rubber vaccum hoses have surfrace cracks on them but I think that isn't the cause.

I tried running the lambda probe before catalyst test, the test started fine but the catalyst temperature was something like - 32°C Before the test the car was driven 20km in 10°C weather. So there is no possibility of it having really - 32°C.

Tried running this test in the summer, fall, winter, spring multiple times last year but there was - 32°C every time. The test started, It held the rpms up, the temperature didn't change and the test never ended so I gave up. One of the test conditions is to have the catalyst temperature at least at 400°C. In my case the temperature never came close to 3 digit numbers. The Idle is sometimes rough but only a little bit. If I remember right the lambda value was in impossible numbers too. This might be connected with my other issue with exhaust fumes entering the cabin, I explained it in my other thread.

Thanks in advance for any help.

@Adinko Well, the reporting catalytic convertor temperature is clearly an unreasonable value. The issue is whether you have to replace the sensor or the entire unit.

@Paws4Thot Yes, I think the lambda sensor is destroyed. The engine had a leaking head gasked, so it was burning oil and coolant. That probably destroyed the sensor.

Thanks for your reply.

"The issue is whether you have to replace the sensor or the entire unit"

So you would replace an expensive catastrophic convertor in the belief that the exhaust gases could only heat it to 32°C?

If you do please let me have the old one to use as a fridge!

@J.R.No, replace the lambda.

Because the computer calculates the catalytic convertor temperature through the lambda. And it is not possible that the stock catalytic convertor has a temperature of

-32°C after drivimg rhe car 20 km in 10°C weather.

@J.R. That is not what I said. What I said was that the issue was whether or not the sensor could be replaced without replacing the cat. Please stop misrepresenting my statements before I am forced to report you for doing so.

Thankfully @Adinko understood me.
