Does the 1.5 TSI Have Rear Disc Brakes?

I didn't use to struggle but then I got ill and old, I've always been a bit stupid and being a man a bit extra macho stupid (always much less than many tho').

 

Yeap seen a few Turners, at shows usually, until a couple of years ago I had a 1973 Midget as my daily and only car for the previous 16 years and 15+ years before that various other British "classics" as dailies and for work, commuting, holidays and club tours and events and I had to be sure the MoT testers knew a little about "classics" but with the Midget still got intermittent advisories about slight play in king pin(s) despite them never being touched and always greasing up the six points just before the MoT.

 

Spridget wheel bolts were only 44-46ftlb torque, despite telling and give it on paper to all garages/mechanics and tyre places over the years twice I had tyre places do a stud.

 

I supposed the Ford bloke was more used to dealing with tradesmen as Transit owners, I'm afraid I'd have been a bit sarcastic with him if he'd have given me that reply and want it in ftlbs not that it'd matter at 200mn, must have been fun getting that at the roadside with the tool kit wheel brace. 😆

 

I've never experienced a flyoff handbrake but think I've passenger'd in at least one car with it.

 

I used to do passenger rides for charity donations with our club and one time with the Midget a lady in her early 20s said "oh you have a switch" when I turned the wipers on, I thought she meant a switch on the dash instead of column stalk and it was only when I got back I realised she was only used to or seen automatic wipers, made me feel very old. 😆

A good friend from my racing days campaigned an obscenely quick Turner GT, I wish I had stepped in when he eventually had to sell it, they are worth an absolute fortune now but money aside I would just love to own it and drive it.

I bought it for £300 from a work colleague (who was the 2nd owner) when it was painted pale yellow and, after I sold it years later, it was repainted lime green. The car began life with a mildly-tuned Ford 1340cc motor that I replaced with a new Ford 1500cc unit and gearbox, with the 1340cc motor ending up in a pal's Cortina. It was still in use in 2000, but I don't know where it is now.

I'm not complaining, as unlike some, I see threads as like a chat between friends, but blimey this thread has gone off on numerous tangents!

Aye, some random chit chat would be good in a 'chit chat' section. Like you, not complaining, but when looking for comments about a specific post I am interested. particularly this one about rear disk brakes, random photos and comments is a bit of a turn off. Sorry, just saying!

So are my25 1.5 TSI DSG,s arriving with disc brakes, and all is well with the world?

I seriously hope so. I have just had another MOT issue with the rear drums/shoes on another car I own, a 12 year old Corsa. Spent well over four hours stripping down and cleaning them prior to MOT test. BUT another fail, fecking hate them. They are such a pain to balance. Discs and pads are the way to go. IMHO.

I'm pretty confident that it will be the case but this afternoon I shall be able to reply with 100% confidence!

If your Fabia's wheels won't have the aero trims on them, it should be immediately obvious visually whether or not it has rear disc brakes (which everything points to being the case).

 

You might also wish to check its motor's oil-filler cap (mentioned here)

As your car has cosmetic plastic 'caps' on the heads of the wheel-bolts and a Skoda-badge insert in its centre, I assume it did not come with 'aero' wheel trims. 

 

It would be worth you checking that you have the cap removal 'tweezers'.

My 2009 Roomster's alloy wheels have a centre Skoda badge and bolt caps, and the Skoda spare-wheel kit provided with the car when bought new included the 'tweezers'.

 

Conversely, my 2024 Fabia has aero trims and its (optional) Skoda spare-wheel kit DOES NOT include the cap removal 'tweezers'.

 

Both spare-wheel kits include a wire loop/hook thing that (supposedly) can be used to remove wheel-bolt caps

but my 15-years experience with the Roomster is that the plastic caps can adhere quite firmly to the wheel-bolt heads (especially the cap that covers the head of the anti-theft security bolt). I occasionally wipe a little wax polish on the inside of my Roomster's caps, but a firm pull with the tweezers can still sometimes be needed to remove a stubborn cap. It may be practicable to remove the caps with the wire loop/hook, but it won't be as effective as using the tweezers and may well damage the cap.
