Comparing Main Dealer Service Quotes

Featured Replies

So I contacted 2 Main Skoda Dealerships for a Service quote for a vRS 245. Almost 5 years old with 33k miles on the clock.

I have a major and minor service included as part of the Approved Used PCP offer from when I bought the car.

I asked to be quoted for the Service, Spark Plugs, DSG Service and Pollen Filter which I believe are all due. Due to the mileage only an oil change was carried out at the 4th year service.

Dealership A have quoted me £600+ for this. This includes the major service, covered under the Service Plan, £400 for the DSG Service with the Plugs and Pollen Filter making up the other £200 odd.

Dealership B have said the Pollen Filter and Spark Plugs are included as part of the major service and covered under the Service Plan. I would, however, have to pay for the DSG Service at a touch over £300.

Needless to say when the time comes I’ll be booking in with dealership B however I am curious if I have been misquoted by either of the dealerships and their take on what’s included as part of the Service Plan.

I will dig out the small print to confirm but many comments on the Forum seem to suggest only an oil/filter change is covered as part of the Service Plan in which case I’d like to confirm the difference between a major and minor.

Find yourself a good local Indy. I had my DSG (DQ381) serviced last week with genuine oil and filter and it cost £184 including VAT. Can you do the pollen filter and plugs yourself?

So I rang to book this in and got told that the DSG wasn’t due until 80k miles. This wasn't mentioned in previous conversations with both main dealers so kept the booking while I did a bit of digging.

While doing this I discovered that the VAQ was likely due as I had no previous record of it being done.

Called back to add the VAQ and remove the DSG service as it does appear the DQ381 is due at 80k miles only to be told by a different service rep that it’s 40k miles.

Bangs head against wall.

I’m leaving the DSG for now as all the information I can find suggests 80k miles although I will get this done a lot earlier. Currently at 35k miles.

@Ootohere thanks for the information you’ve posted across the forum on this. It’s been a big help.

Currently at 35K suggests you have time either way.  I'm sure Root will be along to mention the lack of service staff understanding.  My view is they say 40k regardless of DGS type.  I've even witnessed them insisting it's 40k on a DQ200.  Youa re doing the right thing I think.  I'd find a good local indy to do the DSG when the time comes.

The DSG service is a good shout. There seems to be a problem with Skoda/VW/Audi underfilling the gearbox oil (two 2019/2020 cars with both the same issue - poor clutch plate pressure and whining DSG oil pump). Get it done properly. £330 was what West End Skoda charged me.

I know that DQ381 box has an 80k service schedule....I would never leave it that long. At 40k, the oil is trashed (ask me how I know this).

Would find a good VAG Independent and get them to do it....plus your service too if they can.

There are certain things I have to use the dealers for, but when my second service is used up, I'm outta there for servicing at the dealership. Poor service and ridiculous upselling (e.g. you need new brakes that will cost you 420+VAT....Brakes and pads have no wear on them at all!!!!).

Find a VAG Indie - I wouldn't trust main dealers to change a wiper blade for me.

From missing a fist sized rock lodged in the steering rack, to selling me a crash damaged car, to not doing the work they said they'd done, just don't. Shame you're up in Norfolk, there's an amazing VAG garage near me (Bournemouth).

As already said, don't leave the DSG till 80k. Also, worth remembering that having the 245, you'll have the VAQ diff, which will also need an oil change. I've seen people suggest as low as 20/25k for this.
