I wouldn't risk it as you'll likely void your warranty along with paying a lot more for insurance and perhaps VED if CO2 emissions increase it. I won't even think about ECU "dongles" that can restore your car to default in case of service or accident, as any technician or loss adjuster can see what you've been up to and invalidate any claim. The DSG may also need reconfiguring to account for the extra torque. I have the MK2 Sportline 2.0 TSI and it's not that slow once on the move compared to the VRS, I'm more than happy with the stock 201 BHP.

IMHO it would've been more economical to buy the VRS in the first place ;-)

There is not any difference in the VED because the car is not getting any new certification from the Testing done for Skoda.

The Warranty T&C,s are clear enough about non Factory Hardware or Software.

The Tuning box / chip or remap should be declared to have valid insurance, simples as that.

Hi.

If you have any issues with insurance at all for a chip, remap or tuning box then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

FYI post is over a year old and OP hasn't been back here since then!

A colleague once had his 1.8 TSI remapped from 160 BHP to around 230 BHP in several stages. I remember that the car went like stink, but needed more regular oil changes and premium fuel. He said that his insurance went up from £600pa to £1100pa, which isn't as bad as I expected. Of course the remap was only done when warranty expired. The car was luckily a manual as the "weak" 7sp DSGs of 2011 wouldn't handle the huge torque increase.

Are you a broker? If so what are the insurance price differences like these days? Thanks!

I paid around £150 more to go from 245bhp to 350bhp. Come renewal they wanted almost double my premium, so I ditched it. I'm young though, so no suprises. For a proper map, I'd expect to be paying 10-20% increase.
