Drive Train Error - A different outcome

Featured Replies

On Sunday on starting the VRS the screen advised it was completing software update etc. screen was held on that but could select drive modes.

i put it in eco as hadn’t been out in a while and a gentle warm up.

2 miles in and the drive train error pops up, driving and shifting still. No bumps or roughness etc. Drove home and searched and could see fairly common on software issues.

Dropped the car in at dealer Monday throwing myself on their mercy. They agreed to take it in and check when they could fit it in.

call back yesterday and the turbo needs replacing, will be away now for many weeks as on back order and an involved strip.

29k miles, 2 and a bit years old.  No exciting big bang and smoke etc but they say it’s a turbo.

will find out more when I go to dealer to get a replacement car tomorrow.

Thought would come back to this one and remember the time back 5 weeks ago.

Update is car still sits at dealer awaiting repair, parts issues but for two weeks actually waiting on a bay and a technician competent enough to do it.

Who knows what else that may crop up when it actually gets stripped down.

Conclusion.

8 weeks in and car has finally come back with a new turbo assembly.

The failure was a pressed clip which is similar to the one you can see on your boot struts.  This clip has failed and the rod which connects to the wastegate actuator. This is why all runs and starts and why no explosive failure.

However these parts are not available separately for warranty and it’s the whole assembly and ancillary’s to complete the job.

Which means a coolant change and also a tracking job as subframe and steering rack plus exhaust of course has to be shifted.

All back and running nice and true so a strange failure for sure.
