Android Auto Connection Problems - SW version 1969!

Featured Replies

New Octavia (received it exactly a week ago).

When I got the car, the representative demonstrated how Android Auto is wireless, and my car connected straight away.  Then of course, the first time I started the car after leaving the agency it didn't connect.  It sees my phone and gives me the AA logo but when I press on it I (eventually) get a message that the connection failed.

When I reboot my phone it always works the first time. After that, hit and miss.

I did a factory reset on my phone (at great pain!) and it worked fine for almost a full day, then it went back to sometimes yes sometimes no.

Meanwhile I can't get it to connect to AA using the USB cable or my old wireless dongle (Ottocast A2Air) - neither is recognized by the infotainment system.

I'm running AA 12 on a Pixel 8 so it's the latest version of both AA and Android.

Anyone have any insights?  I have an appointment to have Skoda do a full diagnostic on the car next week but they need the car overnight so this is a real inconvenience.

Sorry I can't help on this as I have 1941.

However I found this on the Play Store: Check out the list of compatible devices for Android Auto Wireless: https://goo.gle/39iFuUj.

My phone is compatible according to that.

But have you read the latest reviews, it seems that you're not the only one having fun & games with the latest version of AA.

I have found that connecting via cable to get AA working, turning the car off with the phone still connected via cable, disconnect the phone and restart the car, most of the time fixes the wireless AA. It happens sometimes after a phone update, meaning issues is with phone and it's updates rather than the car.

I'm using a Pixel 6A and all updates on it.

Does this clear up the problem permanently, or is that a temporary fix only until the next fail?

Depends on the next AA update released by Google. Sometimes it'll last for 6 months, sometimes a month but just doing it once is normally enough.

Edit - normally doing it once is enough until the next AA Update....

With me I used to have issues connecting with AA, and so could only connect with a charge cable. But then I discovered it was simply because my VPN program would interfering. Now I've included Android auto as an app for the VPN to bypass and it works OK,  otherwise I need to switch the VPN off.

Just a thought you guys haven't got AV,Security software or a VPN running on your phone perchance?

Any of them can affect AA and stop it connecting or running entirely.

Mine wouldn't yesterday as it had a VPN and Security scan going on in the background. Stopping it and switching off the VPN resolved the issue.

No to all 3 but curiously, I've noticed the last two times I used Google Wallet, AA wouldn't connect the next time I got in the car.  I've disabled NFC to see if that's the problem.

Meanwhile, trying @Hairy_Joe 's solution, we'll see if that works.

It worked for a day or two but then back to the usual random failure to connect.

Actually, one additional data point to consider: whenever my car is parked in an underground garage, it FAILS to connect.  This is 100% of the time.  Does the phone need a live internet connection to connect to the car's infotainment system?  I did not have this phenomenon with my previous Octavia that connected wirelessly with Ottocast Air1Air.

Thoughts???
