New Scala Niggles

Featured Replies

Starting to get to grips with the new Scala. I like the way the adaptive cruise control automatically changes for the speed limits when the camera reads the signs, but it gets confused in some places where it thinks it's 60mph not 70mph, because it hasn't seen the national speed limit sign on the entrance to a dual carriageway, but halfway along it must read the sat nav data and corrects itself.

I like the fact I now have android auto wireless, so for short journeys I don't have to take my phone out of my pocket and plug it in to use it.

One niggle I have is that the rear seat belts now need to be plugged in all the time or it starts to ping at you and flash the red seat belt symbol at you.

The other niggle I have now is that when listening to android auto and using the sat nav at the same time it now stops what your listening to while it gives the direction, where as the old system used to just over lay the announcement on top of the audio you were listening to. It doesn't do it when you are listening to the radio. I have solved it for the moment by changing the sat nav to just chiming when a new instruction is given, and this is over laid on to of the audio.

One thing I do like is that the system starts much quicker when you turn the ignition on, compared to the old one.

Can’t give any view regarding andriod auto and Sat Nav as I use Apple Car Play, although I guess it will do the same thing.

I haven’t had any issues regarding seat belt bings and bongs, we’ve had the dog in the back on his bed with no warning sounds.

Maybe  something in the menu needs turning off. I must say I am enjoying the Scala, but need a little more time to familiarise myself with all the safety and tech features.

I haven't found anything in the menu's, I have messaged Skoda to see what they say.

One let down I have noticed is the very poor interior boot light, it barely lights up and is not LED. I can’t see anything in the boot when the garage lights are off. I am going to upgrade this to a brighter LED.

Luckily, it's pretty easy to upgrade. The light disassembles really easily.

Just remember to get an LED with CANBUS resistance. I have these for reference (I know it's in Danish, but the specs are there: https://dinled.dk/products/kopi-af-t10-w5w-12v-canbus-led-paere-saet-med-2-stk)

These light up really good.

Thank you, I am pretty sure the light just pops out, I will take look.

Legin T - The web page shown above is sadly no longer accessible. Are you aware of any UK based retailers who might sell the correct bulbs.  Many thanks

After 2 failures from Amazon I stopped looking and purchased a couple of LED battery powered downlight torches positioned under the netting on the parcel shelf, they do an ok job if I need more boot light.

my 24 plate car has developed the air bag light fault now, it must have been sent through to the dealers as they called me earlier to book it in.

I think I will just leave it now and wait till there is a software fix for it.

Anyone know how to update radio station logos? I have found you can download them from skoda to copy to car but my car does not appear to have an sd card slot? Maybe connect a USB stick to one of the USB slots?

With thanks to previous advice on the topic of changing the halogen boot bulb for a LED replacement.

I have this morning carried out this task which took no more than 2 - 3 minutes.

Found a UK based seller on Ebay for 'Canbus Error Free' bulbs and which I purchased a pack of two for around £7.

Much stronger light and also now in keeping with the reminder of the factory fitted interior LED lights. Also no warnings as of yet on the dashboard as regards the system not recognizing the change of bulb

After 2 failed attempts it’s nice to see a solution that works. I have ordered the same Auxito LED bulbs from eBay

I bought these bulbs to but I'm sure they don't fit my Scala the 2 pins look much wider that my original ones, how do you get the old bulb out the plastic housing does it just slide?

ignore above it was me being stupid, all working good now!

Today the car flashed up another false alert - a big Red collision warning symbol on the dash as well as sudden breaking. This happened twice in about 5 minutes. There were no cars in front or even near me at the time. I turned off this so called safety feature and went on my way.

I can add that to the other false alerts.

Also, does anyone else have trouble sending a destination via the app to the car. It worked when we first got the car, but now nothing.

I must admit the ridiculous infotainment system is driving me nuts. I actually hate it, it is not logical or intuitive. As for talking to Laura, Siri etc, I may as well ask the dog to help me.

I don't use the in car sat nav or laura, I use waze on android auto. Not had any other niggles apart from air bag warning light comes on  on still every time I start car.

I don't mind the infotainment system the only things I don't like is no shortcut back to android auto if I have to say go into the radio menu or air con menu I then have to hit the menu button again and select android auto from there.

Oh and still can't get use to the lack of power from the 1.5 engine.

I suppose it’s going to take a long time to understand all the menu’s and short cuts. It takes me ages to sort out the nav. I can’t understand why it keeps switching to my wife’s phone when it is set up for mine.

We had a trip out to Dedham in Essex today and used the A12 which is mostly 70mph. I know what you mean about power, I wish I had my 2.0 ltr GTI engine back. I certainly don’t drive around with a satisfying smile on my face like the Golf.

Hopefully some sort of firmware update will fix all the false alarms. Even if you turn them off in the menu they all come back once you restart the car, very annoying.

Same I miss my 2.0 TDI engine and I would of chosen that one in the Scala had they not discontinued it. Gave me a smile accelerating up hills.

I almost feel my wife's 1.0 95bhp engine in her new ibiza feels faster and more responsive than the 1.5 scala after driving hers.

I will definitely be trading in this car when PCP is up in 3 years.
