2007 Octavia 2.0 TDI - Auto changing gears slowly.

Featured Replies

I need to go out and drive it again to understand exactly what is happening but today for the first time, it felt like the gears were slow to change or wouldn't change at all. Even when I would slam down on the accelerator. In manual mode the gears would change but It just wasn't clear to me what was going on. It could be that either the revs didn't increase no matter how I pushed down on the peddle, or the speed would not increase as it had reached the max speed for the gear it was slow to change up from. Literally the speed wouldn't increase after a given point.

Struggling to explain as I honestly need to wrap my head around what was taking place.

Does any of what I said sound plausible to anyone? Of it does, any ideas of the likely issue?

What servicing has the gearbox had over the years and how long since the last time or how many miles since?

If revs are not increasing no matter how hard you press the peddle it suggests and engine issue rather than gearbox.

Any lights on the dash? Do you have a code reader?

Is it in Limp mode?

In my ownership no servicing specifically for the gearbox. I've had the vehicle for 7 years in which time I've put 40k on the clock. We're now at around 73k

Just dropped it to a mechanic for some ABS issues I've been having.

Thing is, the gearing seemed to change okay when I switched it to manual?

If a 6 speed wet clutch DQ250 DSG then the service interval is at 40,000 miles so if not done before your ownership then long overdue.   An Oil and filter change.

If you're having ABS issues that could be the cause of it.

The car relies on the speed data from the ABS sensors on all wheels to determine what gear it needs to be in and also whether to limit or cut power from the engine entirely if it thinks the wheels are locking or spinning from lack of grip etc.

When my Octavia had a faulty ABS cable it had exactly the same symptoms with the gears, not changing up or down correctly as the car didn't know what speed it was doing so couldn't calculate what gear to choose.

Get any ABS issues fixed before you look at anything else, but the get the oil and filter changed on the gearbox as said above, it's a 40,000 mile interval.

Apparently my tracking is way off and reckons it could be the culprit?
