Coolant G13 vs AF12+ - mistake ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I noticed that the coolant in my Skoda is way below the minimum level, rushed and bought AF12+ coolant and topped up. And then looked at the container and it shows "G13".

Is it going to harm the engine in any way ?

I'm sure it'll be fine, but you should prioritise finding why the level has fallen.

Consumption of coolant should not occur.

They're intermiscible but make sure any future topups are the later spec. More to the point, where's the leak!

Do I have to go to a garage to find the leak ? Any DIY ways ?

Yes. Look for a stain where water has come out (usually from a pipe, the radiator, the water pump or the thermostat housing. I could show you, but you'd have to pay an open return air fare from Glasgow to Stansted and a day car hire for me.

Thanks, I will keep the air fare option as plan B 😉

Where is the max level on the container (as in the picture below) ? I can see the min and I topped up above it but was afraid of adding too much.

376702464 MAHLE ORIGINAL without cap, without sensor Expansion tank, coolant CRT 21 000S buy

AFAIK the dotted area is within range, the two solid lines indicating min and max, at cold.
