Footwell Lights Installed

Featured Replies

I finally got round to hardwiring my footwell lights.

Unfortunately I go to bed so early that I've not been able to see them in the dark but I think they'll be good.

It was really easy to do but, if I did it again, I'd crimp wires together to make them longer before I started.

Here's a list of everything I used:

12v to 5v converter:

Fuse tap set (you only need mini fuse taps, so you can save some money and buy only those):

The lights (didn't come with double sided tape, as I expected them to):

3M pads (really sticky and easy to cut to size):

Wire crimper/stripper with accessories (insane value for money):

Extra wire (crimp before installation. You can cut it later):

You'll also need a T20 screwdriver to remove the radio, behind which everything is hidden.

I didn't film it, unfortunately, but I'd be happy to go out and do a quick "how to video", if anyone wants one.

You can see wires and the lights in the video but they're invisible otherwise.

The thick, black wire you can see is for an Android Auto/Apple Carplay screen on my dash.

These lights are controlled by a temperamental app but I set my colour no problem and don't plan to change it; you might want a remote control, which means you'll have to make sure the IR sensor comes out.

There is a HUGE number of colour options and it can fade, strobe, change to different colours gradually, go along with your music etc.

My kids are 1 and in rear facing baby seats; when they're older I'll install the second light bar under the passenger seats, assuming I still have the car.

I also have a spare USB port now, which might come in handy later.

I'm happy to answer any questions!

Cheers.

Hi, Why u needed the 12v to 5v converter? I have done it without it just cut the USB end of the footwell lights and hardwire to fuse. Or was there anything other what u wanted with the Usb? Also what fuse u used? :D My rear wiper fuse its already used by my aftermarket radio :(
