VOTE NOW! Car mats - rubber or carpet? 51 members have voted

  1. 1. Time for a referendum on this thorny issue, so have your say in this important vote: (Full disclosure - for me, it's rubber mats every time.)

    • Carpet - it's a little touch of luxury that cheers me up when I am stationary in nose-to-tail traffic.
      35%
      18
    • Rubber - it's quick and easy to clean and there's no wet-dog smell constantly drifting up from damp and grubby fabric in the foot-well.

Making them travel in the footwell of your Skoda seems a bit harsh. 🤣🤣

Now that sounds like a plan.........

..... And the rubber mats currently in the lead by more than 2 to 1.

Tonight's leader debate: not one word from Sunak or Starmer about whether they prefer rubber or carpet mats in their car. Clearly, the BBC cruelly ripped up the question I submitted. But you can vote on this important issue - link below;

Carpets for a car, every time. Rubber mats just remind me of work vehicles.

If I've been out hiking, dog walking, or shooting, I'll be changing out of muddy footwear before I get into the car anyway.

Dog owner, Scout leader and mountain/road cyclist. Wash down rubber for me, including boot tray. I tried carpet mats in a previous car and after a few winter months they started to smell quite ponky and I am lazy and can't be arsed to clean them constantly as they will only get dirty again!

Rubber in winter carpet in summer.

You can do a poll on Brikoda you know @Happy_owner

Tsk...it's election day - time to take a stand! If the car was on fire and you could only rescue one type of mat....???😁

Ah, but there is - the rescued mats can be put on the living room floor in front of the sofa, where the unfortunate owner can sit and make car engine noises and turn an invisible steering wheel until the insurance pays out! Assuming they are fully comp.

As rubber remains ahead in the great Skoda car mat vote, the burning issue has also featured on the front cover of the enthusiast publication, "What Mat? Magazine". See pic and don't forget to vote - link below:

Multiple post of same thing by mistake!

Just returned from dog training and a long walk in Belhus Woods Country Park. Thank goodness for my brilliant rubber mats, no soggy and muddy carpets for me. Even in so called Summer rubber is the way to go, no kinky fetishes implied.

I voted for Rubber for practical reasons, however if you are a poor freezing pensioner you might want to consider warmer carpet this winter.

Careful what you vote for.

As a poor pensioner on a limited income. 5 days after we got our new Karoq we put our Granddaughter in the car with carpet mats.......
We went out and bought a full set of Škoda mats.  (and the one for the tunnel in the back)

When the weather improves or the snotty child, sorry, delightful granddaughter   isn't needing picking up from school we will go back to the carpet ones.

I had some rubber mats made up. The new rubber smell is terrible. The missus says it makes her feel ill. I put them out in the garden for a few days to air.

That did absolutely bugger all, so I have ended up putting the old carpet mats back in again.

I don't think warming them in the sun will help.  Try washing them in a scented disinfectant.

Tried that. Scrubbed them in Dettol lemon disinfectant. Still smell very strongly of rubber.

Well if rubber is out. Does your wife like the smell of leather....
Sorry, wrong conversation 🙂

Seriously, no idea what you can do.  We found, not that we could smell them anyway after 24 hours because there was mud and other stuff on them and when you clean them off there is no rubber smell at all.

I would not leave rubber mats in the sun as that just seems to make the smell worse, so I have observed over the years for rubber in general.

All the other mats I have seen are other forms of plastic or leatherette and seem nowhere near as hard-wearing.
You have a conundrum.  Good Luck!
