Felicia Gearbox oil level?

Featured Replies

Revolution counter, Speedometer cable 002409191B seems to be available but at the prices I'm not sure of the quality, I'd stick with factory original.  I must admit I thought you were previously referring to the plate clamp.

For your MoT and emissions if you service the car before and clean parts not normally included in a service (that's just about everything with Dealership/ garage/mechanic service as they just do an engine oil& filter change) this will help reduce emissions.  So too will having the engine well warmed before the start of the MoT.  I also suggest two full tank fulls of Tesco Momentum99 or Shell V-Power or similar for their added additional cleaning packages have the petrol so that it's being used before, during and just after the MoT.

A couple of years back my over priced over valued old car called a "classic" failed it's MoT on something I forgot to check so I arranged for the retest as I was handed the fail note, when I went back the tester had passed duties over to a younger lad and we both chatted and watched as he checked the bit that had previously failed with the car on the lift.  As as we did so a drop of oil fell on the young lads face and we laughed, bad mistake he added oil leak as an advisory.  Technically that was incorrect but I let it go, next year I wiped the underside clean of any oil just before taking it in for the MoT.

With an old British engine they say if it's not leaking then it means it's run out of oil. 🙂

That is a cracking idea about the quality fuel! I've also grabbed some redex on sale this morning so will also add some of that in between as well. Regards filters I have recently done an oil change and air filter, but I might also bang some new sparkplugs in there as they have not been changed in ages.

Cheers!

Do so as plugs are so often missed and can also look fine and still be working but be beyond their best and well beyond their optimum and normally they are relatively inexpensive.  Watch out for cheap counterfeits buy from a good reliable source.  Personally I favour NGK and never favour too much on a car with a Bosch label.

ETA: new good sparkplugs gapped correctly can make sometimes make a surprising difference to how the engine runs and power and fuel economy, not talking miracles but good value for cost and effort (n older cars).

Stick with ghe originals, i have done some experiments in the past with other types and the results always were not good.

Old Felicia's will always only just scrape through on emissions, it's an old engine type with very few sensors to absolute precision regulate fuel / air mix like modern cars.

It's got to a point that I just put a new catalyst on every year, because the Felicia's pre 2001, the catalysts don't have to be type approved, so can get a new one for £50-£60. It'll be knackered by the following MOT, but I just accept it as a running cost.

Be careful when putting in the redex, they have shortened the neck on the bottle, and it no longer reaches and opens the little flap in the fuel filler neck.

Result redex all down you bodywork. Happened to me last time I bought a bottle.

Cheers for the heads up about the bottle sizes - and yes it is the 2nd one, just the ordinary red petrol engine cleaner. However I have not done many miles recently so not filled up yet. That's also a fair point about the engine, but it has never been mentioned in any previous mot and they actually failed it initially on emissions. Not sure what they were able to do but they did manage to eventually get it through.

Regards spark plugs I have nice new set of NGK plugs on order but would anyone know what the recommended gap size should be? The owners manual is it ususal useless self on this matter:)

Cheers.

The gap is on the description of the spark plug, nevertheless you have to check them one by one with the special tool.
