Octavia MKIII, drivers doors sometimes won't lock/unlock.

Featured Replies

Hello guys.

I have slight problem with my Octavia MKIII.

Driver doors sometimes won't lock or unlock.

So I lock the doors and when I unlock them, I just can't open them, they are like "locked".

Then I have to go to passenger doors to unlock them from the inside, OR if I insert the key directly into the door, they open every time (even when they won't unlock with button key).

Then the same thing happens with locking them. I press the lock button on the key, and they won't lock themself. Then I have to insert the key manually in the door and then they lock.

Last week I had regular 15k km service, I asked my mechanic to check that out, he said he tried to lock and unlock the door 20 times and it didn't happen to him. He sprayed WD40 in the lock as he says that "sometimes the lock won't release itself if she is not lubricated enough", but next day I couldn't open them.

Funny thing is that it's not regular. Door will work for a day or two, then one day they don't work, next day they are ok.

Here's a video of what is happening with them. There is sometimes that little "twitch" that you can see when unlocking them, twitch with mirrors (like they stop for a second to unfold) and then I know that SOMETIMES it won't open. Then other times it happens but they still open...

Thx :)

Quick check - can you check to make sure that you have all doors for open on the MIB system?  Otherwise, you press once and only the driver door opens, press again and all doors should open.

Yep, checked and all doors are on "open" in system..

Then I suspect that the door latch actuator has a problem.  You should also get an error on the CANBUS network if that is happening.  Can you get us a VCDS/ODBEleven scan of the car please for us to comment/check?
