High pitched sound coming from dashboard

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I got my Skoda today and I didn't notice it the first 2 times I started him but the third time that day this high pitched, whistling sound comes right from the center of the dashboard. It's annoying as hell, I cannot put into words my disappointment. I have Tinnitus and the sound resonates with mine and it makes it so hurtful to hear. My friend has a Skoda Octavia, couple years old and it doesn't make that sound when she turns it on. I wonder what could be the cause of this? Please help, if this isn't resolvable I'll turn the car back in, as it's driving me insane.

A humming sound I can also hear but it's not as annoying. This is a definitve high pitched noise.

Hi, welcome.

On my PC there is no sound to that video.  Have the engine idling, trying turning off the infotainment (well as much as possibly, or mute), turn off air-con, turn off the heater blower, turn off everything  and check the noise is not from the engine bay - then try turning items on individually with only one item on at any time with the engine running.  If that does not highlight anything try the same procedure without the engine running.

Others may be able to hear the audio I cannot but for future even though you want audio it is best do do the video in landscape (turn the phone on its side) as this way there is more information in the frame, others can perhaps see something that might be relevant, I understand you might need to have the phone close to the dash but if you can have the image zoomed out as much a possible.

Good luck.

I don't hear it and my hearing is very good. Could it actually be your tinnitus? probably not (hopefully) but worth considering.

As above for isolating any noise tracing. Could it be a warning sound like seatbelt not done up, window not quite shut or

door seal allowing wind noise. I had an awful noise once, someone had not fully closed a rear window. I could not place the direction.

Fanbelt, water pump . leaf or similar in the heater system ?

Are you able to hear the "high pitched, whistling sound" on your video?

The previous two posters have said that they could not hear the sound on your video. I've tried listening to your video on several devices, but the only noise I was able to hear was through my iphone, but the sound  was just a low-pitched hum.

I've never had a hearing test, but it's quite common for older people (I'm 80) to have high-frequency hearing loss to some degree - so the whistling noise may be present on your video but I'm now physically unable to hear it.

Presumably, before enquiring on this forum, you have asked people in Germany to listen to your Fabia and they have confirmed hat they are able to hear the whistling sound?

Best thing is for you to take your car back to where you bought it from (a Skoda dealership?) and ask them if they can hear the whistling sound, identify its cause. and stop the noise occurring.
