Karoq 2020 vs 2022

Featured Replies

We are planning to replace our much loved SE Drive Yeti and had found a 2020 Karoq with low mileage. However, the dealership have a new facelift 2022 Karoq for £2K more with slightly high mileage due in which we’re considering.

Has anyone recently changed from the older style Karoq to the newer, and have you found any major benefits? We did have a look at both specs but didn’t see any major difference unless we’ve missed something. Also, we are planning to get a PCP deal this time so would a newer model be a better option?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

One of the problems with the newer cars is that the assist systems are more difficult to turn off!

On my car for instance, I can set the lane assist off, and it will stay off. Newer cars will turn it on each time you start the ignition, forcing you to turn it off manually if you don't like it. My daughter has an Octavia with the newer predictive cruise control which she finds annoying as it keeps reminding her to slow down for an approaching roundabout even when its turned off. My MY21 car has adaptive cruise control (which I seldom use) and doesn't do this.

The newer car may have updated software, and the body may be in better condition. Will it have a better warranty with more of the original factory warranty valid?

I never buy cars with PCP so can't comment on that, but the dealer should be able to tell you how the two deals compare.

Thanks for your advice Chris.

I had read some of the newer safety features on the Skoda models were a cause of frustration. It sounds like the cars have so many more features than our little Yeti. Part of me wonders if this means more can go wrong!

The 2022 vehicle is still under warranty but if we do the PCP deal you get 2yrs warranty included.

I think people have been saying that you can switch off predictive cruise control and turn it into good old adaptive cruise control mode. J use ACC a lot and always on motorways but it has its mild foibles, particularly being slow to lock on to any vehicle that moves out in front of me onto my lane, or cuts me up.  It is also slow to deregister a vehicle in front in my lane if I wish to pull out to overtake, so I move out in plenty of time and ACC does unlock so my car doesn't suddenly slow down as I pass that other vehicle.  I think this anticipation is anyway good practice, even if it does sometimes annoy speed merchants who have to slow down rather than me getting stuck behind the car in front, while they pass.  I don't see why I should be inconvenienced in such circumstances when I'm travelling at the speed limit and they are breaking the law, driving well over that limit.

Another thing I have find with ACC is that it picks up vehicles travelling in the adjacent right had lane and can be a bit of a nuisance in traffic if they have to slow down more than my car needs to.  However I've been finding recently that it seems to stop doing this at speeds below 50mph, which is useful in traffic.  However, I need to check on this behaviour more before I can be definite about this.

What's the instrument cluster like in each car?  We've got a 22 SE-L that  must be one of the last before the facelift (facelift has a kink in the lower edge of the headlights) and we've got lovely and clear analogue twin dials.   In the facelift they moved to an 8" (I think) LCD panel that I thought looked horrible (although we had a courtesy SE Karoq with it and my wife was quite happy as all she wants to see a big digital speed display).

I believe they've just upgraded Karoq to the bigger (10"?) digital cockpit and that can be configured to look just like the old twin dial setup.

10.25" virtual cockpit has been available since the facelift, it's been part of the Amundsen plus package which was an option on SEL and standard on later Sportlines.

For 24 it's standard across all models.

My 23 SEL has 10.25" Virtual Cockpit as it has the Amundsen Plus Pack.

Once you have it though the twin dial setup is probably the one I use the least.
