Any PHEV seen in the UK yet?  I’m interested to try one to see if it’s a good compromise towards electric drive. Other than ID7 I don’t see much in the way of similar capacity estates that are pure electric. 

Probably better posting in one of the other forums where there will be more users with the PHEV engine.

The powertrains are pretty much the same between the Octavia, Superb Mk3 & Mk4 so I dont think theyll be any huge leaps in driving feel.

 

My experience with a PHEV was that driving wise, if you make short journeys or journeys less than the electric autonomous distance they were great providing you could charge at home.

Electric driving really is much more smooth than IC engines even with automatic transmissions & the performance of even small/low power motors is more than enough.

When combined with the IC they make for a great driving experience without the worry of running out of juice.

The Mercedes we had was aweful to drive though if the battery was at 0% as it relied a lot on the electric drive to smooth the pull-aways,gear changes & accelerations.

 

You should be aware that you will lose some space from the boot floor as it will be filled with batteries.

The latest PHEV powertrains in VW Group cars (Superb/ Kodiaq/ Golf / Leon etc) seem to be a significant change over the Superb Mk3 and pre-FL Octavias.
They all have recently announced PHEVs which promise at least 100km range, faster charging (50kW at a rapid charger and I believe faster rates at home on AC too).

According to the configurator when I tried one just now, the Superb has a claimed 83 miles WLTP combined range - while those WLTP ranges always seem optimistic it's a fair bit more than the old powertrains.
So I don't think the older Superb/Octavia PHEVs will necessarily be a good guide, and while that powertrain is going into a few VW models, I also suspect there aren't many on the UK roads yet.

I forgot to mention what might be the biggest difference - the new PHEVs use the 1.5TSI engines whereas the older ones used a 1.4.

@Cedwing  a BMW i5 Touring is a BEV.

BMW i5 is available as an estate. But it's another step up in cost. 

@Cedwing  Yes indeed, but no place was cost mentioned. 

The Audi EV Estate will be expensive as well. 

A smaller MG estate cheapish.

 

Business users that might go PHEV can maybe go with a more expensive BEV for the tax benefit and cost to run if home or work place charging available.
