So was pulling up at a carpark and the steering went heavy and the battery lamp came on. Turned off and back on again no issues. 

 

Thoughts?

Get the alternator tested as it sounds like it may be on the way out.

In fairness my initial research pointed in that direction. Not too expensive a replacement?

Depends whether you're doing the labour yourself really and what you define as expensive
