Yes, but it may well give a reading at ambient temp, where the display doesn't. So if that says something higher than ambient when the oil is known to be at ambient temp, it would give useful info.

I hadn't taken in your comment, only their response.

 

On my car I have to go through a couple of menus to read the oil temperature, otherwise it is unseen although I might be able to change the parameters so that it can be displayed.

 

Does the ECU show a dashboard warning if (what it believes is) the oil temperature is too high like it does with the coolant temp?

It doesn't give a warning that your oil is warm. It displays instant temperature.

I went to the service, the oil level sensor will change. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Unless the oil level sensor is a dual one, which I think may be unlikely, that may not resolve the issue. I'd have thought a temperature sensor would be positioned lower down than a level sensor.
