Dash Cam Install Tip

Featured Replies

Nice little dashcam install tip - routing the cable inside the rear mirror housing so there’s (almost) no cable visible :)

How did you manage to remove the housing? Closest instructions I've been able to find were for a Superb which said to part apart the housing around where the mirror swivels. I tried but couldn't get it to separate without fear of breaking.

You were in a similar boat to me. I decided to just be brave. I did however also order some spare parts (they weren’t very expensive) as I suspected I’d mess at least one up with the Dremel. I have since modified the housing to make it even neater, without pinching the cable. When I go out later, I’ll grab a photo for you.

You do indeed part the two pieces where the mirror is. I found it helpful to get a trim tool, and push it between them. They do come apart I promise! They’re only held in by some clips, but they can be quite stiff for the first time.

The larger piece simply pulls away - pull downwards and towards the mirror.

If you look at the parts online, you can see how they clip together. The front two pieces don’t actually clip to the mirror or anything - they clip together, and sit in some slots. The larger piece then clips into them.

Let me know how you get on - happy to send some more photos and videos if you need.

Thanks. I'll suck it up and give it another go.

I would mount the dashcam higher, so not everyone can see that there is a camera, some people don't like it

I’m not overly fussed about it - to be honest with everything being black, you can’t even really see it. It’s also positioned perfectly so that I can’t see it behind the mirror!

I haven't been on this site for a while but thought I'd give an update. I managed to pry the two pieces directly behind the mirror apart. The trick was to pry the left hand side first.

I used a Dremel to make a groove for the cable to sit. A pillar trim came off easy so was able to neatly pin it away from the airbag.

Overall I'm happy with the way it sits and barely notice it behind the mirror.
